He never does. He might still believe he should stay.

I guess that makes two people then - him and Mike Shanahan himself.

OMG. Ok, I'm thinking along those lines, but god you can't say that here. These fans who believe he's the next god will eat you alive. tisk, tisk. ;)

As I said before, I think the only reason we had success last year was the coaches changed the offense to be more like Baylor's just for RG3 so he was not called a bust his first year. Now they want to get back to their style of offense (which quite a few fans here should be happy cause they kept saying the college read option was going to go no where). Maybe Cousins fits MS's style of offense better then RG3 does but they were hoping RG3 and all his abilities would pan out for them. < and he still might but they have to do some developing in the off season and hope he's a quick study.

Why change a system that got you to the playoffs, if it ain't broke don't fix it. That would mean Shannhan is an idiot if he arbitrarily changed the offense. Illogical, damn it Jim I'm a phaser technician not a nursing assistant.

I think he didn't want to further hurt his pride and ego, although de-activating him pretty much does that. The Shanahan's like Cousins, had a 1st round grade on him and probably think he's the better fit to run their offense. If Cousins plays well, he's not going anywhere and RG3 might be the one that's dangled out there as trade bait.

Not sure if I should be excited about this or not. On one hand if they valued him that much perhaps he has some success, on the other hand I have seen the Shanahans' recent evaluation of QB talent and it is worrisome.

This is a brilliant move, it should have been done in September!

Kinda playing it fast and loose with the word "brilliant" there are we?

Did anyone else consider the possibility that Shanahan just forgot that the the rams have our 1st round pick? Maybe he's tanking on purpose for a great draft pick.

Surprising he doesn't rip him that bad

"Mike definitely rubbed me the wrong way in some ways. Also, he did some great things in resurrecting my career. Overall, I was grateful to be coached by him. But I was a square peg in a round hole. I didn't fit what he really wanted me to be, and he moved on to somebody else.''

I'll try to spell it out for you a little better... don't look at the situation now and wonder what the hell they were thinking... look at it from their perspective at the time...

RG3 gets drafted and they have high hopes, he shows up in June or later and essentially he has 2 1/2 months if that to prepare for the season. You know learn the plays. He shows up and either doesn't know the plays that well or is having trouble running them, ie; all the fundamentals a normal QB should already know but needs a little tweaking like footwork, back peddle, reading defenses, how to hand the ball off, etc. etc. Knowing they won't fix stupid in time they decide to incorporate not just some but a lot of the "read option" spread that RG3 already knows. Maybe they asked him for several plays he liked. The year goes by rather well except for one glitch and thats RG3's injury. Perhaps they hoped RG3 would be around the off season between year 1 and year 2 so they could work with him on all the basic fundamentals but he stayed in Florida rehabbing his knee.

Year two we are looking at an RG3 who is limited due to injury and the brace. He does not have the speed he did in year one so now it's time to tweak the offense yet again. Maybe make him more of a pocket passer and try to get the protection around him. However if he has to run he can.

I think they tweaked it to be more of what MS runs as a scheme simply to protect RG3 from running so much. So this whole second year was a huge learning curve for RG3. Yeah he did some nice things but he still has a lot to learn. and when under pressure he forgets all about fundamentals.

Now we are at the end of the season, gossip everywhere, not getting into the play offs, the field is messy, so there is no need to let RG3 get hurt taking a pounding or while running on the messy field. Cue Cousins here. Someone who is not an option QB but can run a little of it but is more of a pocket passer. Exactly what MS needs for "his" system to work.

If this long, repetitive diatribe had a point, I missed it because I stopped reading after this comment.

There are plenty of things that Griffin can be criticized for, but being too stupid to play the position isn't one of them.

4 years in and we're still calling this Mike's offense?
