I'm not sure that I get the love for Lovie. In 9 seasons in Chicago:

wins 81
wins per year 9
losses 63
win pct. .563

3 playoffs in 9 years
playoffs win pct. .500
1 conference championship

That is an average to a bit above average record to me. But it is nothing that great. 2 out of every 3 years as a coach he watched the playoffs from the couch just like me.

I'm gonna toss a name out there, Aaron Kromer. Worked under Sean Payton and now Marc Trestman, 2 QB gurus. He's an offensive line guy so you know he would prioritize that unit. Ties to Bruce Allen from Tampa. Should be able to get a good staff together.

Thoughts?

You mean the same Chris Russell that said Daniel Snyder & Bruce Allen had interest in Art Briles based on his sources 5 weeks ago on the sports fix? That Chris Russell? The Chris Russell that said based on his sources the Redskins were going to sign Matt Flynn and were not interested in P.Manning? That Chris Russell? The same Chris Russell that thinks Jim Haslett is a defensive god and that Bill Cowher is going to suit up and ride to Ashburn in a pumpkin? That Chris Russsell?

Can't think of a name that carries less weight in regards to Redskins information than that Chris Russell...

I'll go back to watching the mayhem..

If briles comes here this is no longer the washingon redskins but the Washington Robert griffins. You don't let a stubborn arrogant young quarterback and his dad who lives vicariously through him bring in his college coach. What the hell kind of message does that send to the locker room. Atleast for 3 more years when rg3 is out of the league because he can't cut it as a pocket passer. Rg3 playing the way rg2 and rg3 want him to play is not sustainable. Kyle Shanahan tried to help him become a better pocket passer and he rejected the coaching. He's a diva and will ultimately proved to be a mistake that set the franchise back years.

Right now Lovie smith is the only available head coaching candidate that I think can actually do better than Shanahan here. I hope we can get him somehow.

So your convince RG3 is useless and you'd go with a Lovie Smith who offenses have struggled immensely? Our next coaching hire should be an offense head coach whose primary focus should be the development of RG3 into the top 5 QB talent he is. You need to go back to last year and see the quick transition he showed, the RG3 has already proven he can excel at this level.

Im personally just as lost on the Lovie Smith HC angle as much as your disdain for the greatest offensive weapon since "the posse" and "the hogs" era in DC.

So, the popular narrative is that the Redskins won't be able to find a good coach because they have been unstable at the position since Snyder has owned the team.

But it must be noted that since 1999 the Redskins have had six coaches not counting 3-game interim Terry Robiskie. The Cowboys have had five; so have the Lions (plus two interims). Is there any talk that those teams won't be able to find a coach if they decide to make a move? And don't tell me Snyder meddles and then look at Jerry Jones and say a coach would be more comfortable under him. And the Ford family does zip.

Head coach of the Redskins might not be the ideal job. But most of the ideal jobs aren't open and aren't going to open. The Redskins have a potential star QB in Robert Griffin III, a decent amount of cap room this year and a pretty well set up for the cap going forward, and an owner who will spend.

Is the Vikings job better with Adrian Peterson perhaps slowing down with a ton of money left on his contract and no solution to the QB position on the roster?

How about the Jets with their QB mess and circus atmosphere that makes DC look tame?

The Redskins job is not for everyone. Evidently Tony Dungy isn't interested but nobody really asked him, either. Some will think that other options are better. But even though it may not be the plum job of the NFL, it's better than others that will be open.

I think people will be surprised at the amount of interest there is in the job.
