Giantone 12-26-2013, 12:42 PM I assume you are suggesting it would not be? If that is the case.....why would it not be?
No , you would be wrong ,I'm asking who (what individual) he thinks will take the job ?
Mechanix544 12-26-2013, 01:45 PM Number one, we do not NEED an established NFL head coach. We have a new quarterback that runs a unique style, so find a coach who will cater to that style and make it work with the core players on offense we currently have, and will sign this offseason. (RG3, Williams, Garcon, Reed, Morris, Hankerson are really the only ones who I believe are shoe ins for next season. Its more than half, and I'm sure we will keep at least one of our guards, so 7/11 is a good core). Revamp the defense as much as you can with the draft and free agency, but TRY to keep them relatively young. Keep both your ends, they make or break the secondary and are a top 5 pair in the NFL. Find high motor smart guys for special teams.
These are all things that are doable in one offseason. I believe there will be plenty of high quality coaches that will be jockeying for the job this offseason. Why? Main reasons below.
- Finally have plenty of young talent
- Have a very capable backup QB, or an additional 2nd round pick, whichever way you play it, it is a plus for the team
- The HC will get paid more than market value, you can count on that
- Have shown that they can win
- Have the RotY franchise QB to develop and win with
- Have a true number one receiver
- Have a top 5 Left Tackle, as well as a top 5 rusher in Morris
- Have a top 5 pair of defensive ends
- Would be coaching in the NFC East, not the best division in football right now
- Have an owner that will spend whatever is necessary to win games and actually cares about the team, not just the teams financials
- And the biggest reason, Snyder has shown he can give football people, not yes men, the keys to the ferrari that is the Redskins franchise.
Of course there will be criticism, but any good young coach that gets offered this job would be stupid to pass it up
skinsguy 12-26-2013, 03:27 PM One of the most well respected former coaches, Tony Dungy, has already said he would never work for an owner like Snyder. I'm sure several people around the league feel the same way. I think it's going to be hard to get one of the big names in here.
And one of the most well respected former coaches, Joe Gibbs, has worked with Snyder and had a very good working relationship with him - so it goes either way. Just because one well respected coach wouldn't work for Snyder doesn't mean no other well respected coach wouldn't as well. And secondly, why is it that the head coach must be a big name? This sounds like Vinny Cerrato / Gerry Snyder talk.
Marty at one time also said he could never work for Snyder.
mitch e 12-26-2013, 04:27 PM at this point I dont care who the new HC is as long as he brings a good staff and demands a new surfice for the field! It looked like crap!!
rypper11 12-26-2013, 05:30 PM I can't believe I'm saying this but I don't think DS is the bad guy here ,frankly I don't think anyone is .Best move Washington can do now is nothing ,leave everyone in place build a new and improved O line and people will forget this year happen .
I know it sounds wrong and I mean no offense but DS , Shanahan and RGII should basically ignore the fans and just do their job .Bob is a good QB and only in his second year and that was in recovery from major knee repair .Pull up the posts , I said it would take a year and maybe even sit him for a year , why, because I went through it(the knee injury) most people it takes 2 years .Shanahan is a Hall of Fame coach ....and like it or not other coach's will watch and look at the way he is treated in Washington and will use that on whether they want to come here or not.Last Dan Snyder ,he has done what everyone asked and is still getting crap ,the man can't catch a break ,he has stayed away and kept quiet but it seems for some that just isn't enough .
Two things in football fans don't acknowledge and to me they are the most important , 1) chemistry 2) luck .Every winning team has some sort of luck and most don't always have the best talent but they work well together and that = chemistry .My point there is no downside to waiting a year .
I hate myself for completely agreeing with you.
The Goat 12-26-2013, 05:48 PM Per Obrien and patience for him, I think all of Redskins nation from owner to majority of fans have shown patience the last four years AND it will continue as long as we see competence on game day.
I like that Gruden is a small town guy, maybe it's perfect in that he's NOT looking for the limelight. Keep his head down and focus on the team.
Why is Lovie not happening? It irks me because I see Lovie as the perfect fit assuming we have a great OC, which you need anyway. His players always give 100% on the field and he also has that no nonsense factor. Keeps his head down and focuses on the team. Doesn't conjure up bullshit for the media. In many ways he's the opposite of Shanahan. Lovie is a high character guy IMO and will win a Lombardi one day. Just a great fit for DC and RG IMO. I'm pissed there's no interest and wanna know who's to blame?
Smootsmack this was for you. What's the story with no love for Lovie in DC?

I don't know if we're interested. Maybe there is some interest because he does have a connection with Morocco Brown. But from Lovie's end, what I've heard is that he would like to stay in Texas (or at least out west), and he believes he's got a good shot at either the Houston or Dallas job.

Geez I'm surprised he would consider Dallas. Does he have a connection to Jerra?
Houston doesn't have a QB but will have a high enough pick to draft one I guess, or he gets Cutler or Mcgown in FA.
What's the connection with Moracco Brown?
KI Skins Fan 12-26-2013, 09:24 PM I'm so far behind on this thread I'll never catch up. I'll just assume that every reasonably qualified coach I've ever heard of has been discussed.
As bad as we've been this season, I stiil think we're not that far from winning our weak division next season if RGIII comes back healthy and we make the right moves in FA and the draft. For one thing, we're probably going to get back 8-10 pretty good players from IR alone.
I think that the last thing we we need right now is to start all over but that doesn't necessarily mean keeping Mike Shanahan. I'm wondering if an experienced, steady NFL hand (not necessarily a big-name) can make some necessary changes but nothing revolutionarly, hire top quality assistants, and get us right back in the playoff picture.
I'd look for someone more on the Lovie Smith end of the scale than the Jon Gruden end of the scale. Dramatic improvement without the other kind of drama.
