It has been discussed before in threads that Bruce Allen may move into a position more focused on business development and contracts negotiation for the skins. If this is to happen who should take the reigns of player acquisition and evaluation of talent? This becomes especially important if Mike Shanahan is fired at the end of the season. I will mention some in house candidates, feel free to mention others.
A.J. Smith- The former GM of the Chargers is a senior executive on the scouting staff. During his tenure in SD he brought in some great talent in V. Jax, Darren Sproles, Michael Turner, Antonio Gates, Shawne Marriman, Castillo, Antonio Cromartie, and Marcus McNeill. The problem with Mr. Smith is that he feel out of favor for having public contract battles with players. If he became the GM I assume contract negotiation will not be his responsibility.
Morocco Brown- Brown is currently the Director of Pro Personnel. He has a great reputation in the league. Morocco started as an intern for the Redskins, spending 7 seasons in Chicago, and 6 years here in Washington Last year, he interviewed for the Cardinals GM position. The most recent free agent signings Morocco has played a role in. He is responsible for coordinating the advance scouting of Redskins opponents, participating in all Draft meetings, and the evaluation of all professional leagues for potential free agents and trade prospects, according to the Redskins website.
Scott Campbell- Campbell is the current director of Player Personnel. He has worked for the Redskins for the 13 years and has been in the NFL scouting for 27 years. He has overseen both Pro and College scouting during his tenure with the skins. He played a key role in scouting players like Kerrigan, RG3, Alford Morris, Orakpo, Lorenzo Alexander, and countless others.
Discuss who you have in mind for the GM position. Should our HC still have the executive decision? If you have someone else that we should get from another team tell us why?
