The Goat 12-03-2013, 06:10 PM You're totally off. The first choice, Mike Zimmer, had just lost his wife and didn't want to put his kids through the added stress of relocating.
I'm not getting through to you. Mike's in his fourth year and we've been stuck with Haslett the whole time because Zimmer's wife died??
Over the last four years a solid handful of really, really good defensive coaches have been available, many specializing in the 3-4. Wade Philips (worked with Mike before), Rob Ryan come to mind immediately. There's more. Why have we not upgraded the position is the bottom line question?
SBXVII 12-03-2013, 06:44 PM Be honest, is the Haslett situation due at least in part to many/most coaches not wanting to work with Shanny?
He's fired so many DC's and seems to have so few good relationships around the league, I've wondered since the beginning if Haslett was maybe the only guy who would work with Mike. Same goes for the kiddo.
???
Who has fired so many DC's? MS? wasn't the reason MS was fired from Denver was because he refused to fire his DC?

I have never heard anyone say that people don't want to work with Shanahan. Anyone credible to me that is.

Sorry, didn't take that one step further to read the next post. I totally agree. MS gets too loyal with his coaches I think is why we have not upgraded (personally) but .... I think DS allows MS to finish out his 5 yrs as agreed to prior to hiring him. But if MS wants success he needs to fire Haslett and bring in a more qualified DC preferably in the 3-4 so there is not much change, Fix the offense, use the $36 mill to bring in decent talent on both sides of the ball to "fix" this teams issues that he wants to blame on the $36 mill punishment and make something happen next year. Otherwise I don't see an extention.

Just like in any business, Shanahan would not have lasted this long in the league if he were constantly alienating others and driving capable people away.
SBXVII 12-03-2013, 07:26 PM If I could change my vote: what do I think "will" happen? MS stays his 5th year and if he fixes this hot mess then he gets an extention or something. If he fails he's not retained.
What I would like to see happen: MS fired. and....
HC: Jon Gruden
OC: Jay Gruden
DC: Lovie Smith (Tampa Two) < if he'll take the job. Great DC, just OK- HC.
I would throw a ton of money at Charley Casserly just to come back for 3-5 yrs and rework his magic over these guys. I'd keep Allen also.
SFREDSKIN 12-03-2013, 08:30 PM After seeing the Seattle last night, maybe Darrell Bevell is the best option.
Yep. If no Shaw, then Bevell he knows what he's doing.

I cringe everytime i hear that statement about business.
It is 100% not true. I'm not saying Football is just like business.
But i know of a company that just closed down last year - local folks who were in business since 1929.
they rubbed everybody the wrong way, owed the entire county money, had a class action lawsuit against them, and finally went out of business.
The point is they lasted almost 100 years before they went out.
Lots of shit companies still exist in the world that does everything wrong from A to Z.
Please Lotus don't take that offensively i just have always hated the analogy that because something has been around a long time, means its successful..

Ha. My time working with a prominent political radio host would suggest otherwise. Regardless, I don't think Shanny is disliked around the league.
redskins5044 12-03-2013, 08:50 PM I just don't get the love fest over Jon Gruden, it's probably the same who all wanted Shanny here in the first place because of his name. If we move I would rather have a younger Coordinator from somewhere who is hungry to prove himself in the league and let him build his legacy. I am done with the big name guys.
