A shut down corner is had to find. I think denver got the better deal. I love portis but that trade should have been strait up if anything. People seem to forget the context to that trade. It was not just a matter of getting Portis, Lavar had just signed a monster contract and we weren't going to be able to keep Champ in the off-season because of the salary cap. This was a trade to obtain some value. skinsfaninok 12-08-2013, 12:03 PM But everyone knows you can't win the Super Bowl without a dominant Running Back. Willie Parker, Joseph Addai, the warm bodies the Saints and Packers had. #notreally Love Gibbs, but he was living in the past trying to build a team around the RB. That position should NEVER be the highest paid on the Offense/team . Young and cheap is the way to go. Yep , Morris is a stud but is he worth 40 million? Nope HailGreen28 12-08-2013, 08:35 PM But everyone knows you can't win the Super Bowl without a dominant Running Back. The Broncos gave Bailey $60 Mil for 7 years. While Bailey is a first ballot HOF'er, I don't think we make the playoffs in 2005 and 2007 without Portis. HailGreen28 12-08-2013, 08:45 PM I got drilled for it then and will probably get drilled for it now but 10 of those draft picks (Portis, Brunell, Duckett, Lloyd, Campbell, McIntosh trades) were all courtesy of Joe Gibbs 2.0. I said it then and I'll say it now, his stint set this franchise back 6-8 yrs. Vinny isn't without blame but Gibbs was making the key decisions.Gibbs' draft and trade record was hit and miss. Kind of like his "losing season - playoff" routine twice during Gibbs 2.0. Compared to the dumpster fires of Snyder/Spurrier, and Cerrato/Zorn, Gibbs 2.0 didn't set back the Skins at all. If anything, Gibbs was a wonderful reprieve from the general suckitude of the Snyder ownership. We made the playoffs twice with Gibbs 2.0, and went 8-8 with Cerrato and Zorn inheriting the team in 2008. Gibbs' stint set back nothing, except the aforementioned suckitude. He had the final say on such matters. It seems that it doesn't matter who the coach is. The culture here is not conducive to building a winner. That starts at the top. SouperMeister 12-08-2013, 09:04 PM Wasn't the TJ Duckett trade under Gibbs' watch?Yep, Gibbs had final say on that. That's why fans need to pull their heads our of the sand when it comes to Gibbs. He deserves much blame for not leveraging the draft like consistent winning teams do today. budw38 12-08-2013, 09:51 PM I got drilled for it then and will probably get drilled for it now but 10 of those draft picks (Portis, Brunell, Duckett, Lloyd, Campbell, McIntosh trades) were all courtesy of Joe Gibbs 2.0. Gibbs = HOF Coach , not sure he would have made at as a GM . skinsfan69 12-08-2013, 10:20 PM I got drilled for it then and will probably get drilled for it now but 10 of those draft picks (Portis, Brunell, Duckett, Lloyd, Campbell, McIntosh trades) were all courtesy of Joe Gibbs 2.0. The RG3 trade is hurting us more than those moves are. |
