Welp, still hanging with Captain Morgan after that one...
My few thoughts...
#1 Goat: Kyle Shannahan. I mean you gotta be flippin kidding me with that playcalling in the second half. That one drive (after I think Denver tied it or maybe went up 28-21) what do we do? Deep pass, Deep Pass, short pass 3 and out. I mean the abandonment of the run is just astonishing. I generally am a Kyle fan; but my god.
#2 Goat: Rg3. Hate to say that, but man. I know he didn't have a lot to work with, under duress, receivers weren't getting open, but he MUST start making better decisions. There was plenty of insistence's during the game where he had all day to throw, should have thrown it away; and somehow took a sack. I know he wants to make a play, but this two out of the last three weeks where he's just been flat out bad passing the football (Dallas & Denver). Furthermore, I just figured this would be one of those games where Rg3 brought his A game, and was the leader...and he kinda was a dud today.
#3 Goat- The rest of the offense besides Morris and Helu (Jr). I mean receivers not getting open, dropping balls, not protecting, snapping the ball early, ect. ect. This line cannot pass block. Period. I really hope next off season this is the #1 priority is the offensive line, because yeah Rg3 missed guys... but he's gonna get killed behind these guys. They didn't let him back into the game purely because they can't protect the guy (and he should shoulder some blame too).
Defensively, its really weird to say after the other team scored 45... but I was pleased. They played good enough to win the game, with practically no safeties, I thought they did a really good job. You knew Denver was going to put up points, but the offense just couldn't help the D at all, and at some point, they just are gonna break.
I really really wish, this game could have ended 31-21. The final was 45-21, but this game was really competitive and thought could have been a good building block for a team that has the Chargers at home, Vikings and Eagles as their next three games. In a horrendous division, if we are going to make any type of run this season, its going to be the next three weeks. I didn't expect to win today; but was hoping that we could build some good confidence hanging with the Broncos (losers mentality, but whatever) and I thought until the last 10 minutes of the game, we were on pace for that at least...but then the way the Broncos steamrolled us for the last 38 points... nothing you can really build confidence in.
