offiss 03-18-2005, 03:20 AM I have finally come to the conclusion of what our draft strategy should be, we have to trade down, I have finally seen film on some of the top WR's and believe we can live without Edwards, and Williams. The player I am going to promote from here on out which I have to some extent already is Vincent Jackson out of Northern Colorado, I saw his combine were he first peeked my interest, this kid eat's up ground better than William's, he is faster, quicker, and bigger, he has good hand's probably not in the William's mold but William's is exceptional in that dept. I feel we can deal down possibly pick up an early #2 between moving down and throwing in what we get for Gardner and take Jackson.
With our #1 if he's still avail. depending on how we maneuver I would take Rolle, not so much because I think we really need to replace Smoot, I just think he has a lot of Sean Taylor in him without the baggage, this kid is a real player and he has a good attitude as well, I think we will have a good shot at him in the middle of the first round, but the key is to get Jackson then we focus on a center/guard then take your pick on the rest, I think it would be a great draft if we came away with all 3, that scenerio would also save us some much needed cap room, and net us a possible #1 WR.
Sheriff Gonna Getcha 03-18-2005, 03:39 AM I don't think we'll find that many suitors to trade up to the 9th pick. Perhaps the closer we get to the draft, the more draft trade talk with heat up, but right now it doesn't like we'll have the chance to trade down.
Plus, Rolle won't slip past #15 and in all likelihood, he'll be gone a few picks before that. So, I don't think Rolle + Jackson is a likely outcome.
Finally, while we need depth on the O-line, I think we have more pressing needs than guard/center with the signing of Rabach. Lennie Friedman, Ray Brown, Jim Molinaro, and Mark Wilson provide some depth. I think we need more depth at MLB and CB.

Finally!!!!! Someone else comes forward and admits that Jackson would be a good fit with us. I have mentioned him other time on here before. I felt that we could trade down pick up more picks take Clayton in the first round or pick up a DE. Then pick up Jackson. I too seen him at the combine on the NFL Network, and for his size and speed he looked good. I am glad that someone else noticed this prospect also.
Redskins8588 03-18-2005, 04:18 AM Even if we took Rolle or "Pac Man" @ #9, and got a 2nd round pick for gardner to be able to pick up Jackson. I think that could work, hell throw in Cartwright on the deal just so that we could still pick up the 2nd round pick for Jackson...

That would be nice, but there is zero chance we get a 2nd round pick for Gardner. We'll be lucky to get a mid to high 3rd rounder.
Schneed10 03-18-2005, 09:42 AM Yeah nobody is going to trade a 2nd rounder for Gardner. 3rd rounder is the best we'll possibly get, while a 4th rounder would probably be considered fair. I mean think about it, the Colts are starting to think about trading Edgerrin James for a 2nd rounder since they are having trouble finding someone who would give up a #1.
A trade down would be nice in my opinion, but I see absolutely no need to draft a WR at any point. If we get one, great. But if we don't, I'm perfectly happy with Moss, Patten, Jacobs, and Thrash. Plus, Gibbs thinks McCants may be able to get involved as a red zone target like he was two years ago. I think Jacobs is due to break out, that's why I'm comfortable with what we have.
A CB is a bigger need. Depending on what happens with Courtney Brown, a DE would be nice. But I'd really love to see them trade down and grab TE Heath Miller. The Skins have no decent blocking tight end, they wiffed on Walter Rasby last year and I'm convinced that the lack of good blocking at TE was a big reason Portis had such a low yards per carry figure. Miller can really block well, plus he's another serious receiving threat with speed to threaten the safeties down the middle. I like the idea of having really speedy wideouts to go deep, Miller to help pave the way for Portis, Miller stretching the field down the middle, and Cooley settling into zones as a safety valve for Ramsey. You'd have all kinds of dimensions built into the offensive attack, I think the field would open up rather well.
I have no idea if the Skins are looking at Miller or not, but I think he'd be a nice addition.
Yellow31 03-18-2005, 09:44 AM That would be nice, but there is zero chance we get a 2nd round pick for Gardner. We'll be lucky to get a mid to high 3rd rounder.Agree 100% with that. At this point skins may be lucky to get anything for him

With Gardner, I hope we package him with one of our picks to move somewhere, or to get another player.
BDBohnzie 03-18-2005, 12:37 PM everyone is banking on Gardner leaving town...i really don't see it happening now...
there hasn't been much talk about him going anywhere, and the one team we thought we could ship him to just signed Travis Taylor...
drew54 03-18-2005, 12:46 PM I would accept Rod to come back, only if he has one of those contract years where his hands are like black holes and he has 1500 yards and 14 TDs.
