SFREDSKIN 09-13-2013, 10:04 PM If they moved and became the Los Angeles Redskins for example I'd be less inclined to remain a fan than if they stayed and changed the name to the Washington Federals.
How about this? Suppose Snyder says forget it, it's not worth it and sells the team. Someone buys the team and moves them to LA and calls them the Stars or whatever. ANd it's RG3 and company. But then the NFL grants an expansion team to DC and that team gets the Redskins name and colors, but it's different players. Who's your team?
Then you close the book on the Redskins like the Baltimore Colts fans did. You bitch and cry till a new franchise comes along like the Ravens. There's just too much history in this city like Baltimore and Cleveland, they were awarded replacement franchises because of their fans and history. Unfortunately for LA that's a different story.
HailGreen28 09-13-2013, 10:09 PM As far as fandom goes, I guess I've been a fan of Joe Gibbs, and the Redskins, as much as any Washington players over other players in the league. I don't cheer for Aaron Rodgers, Patrick Willis, or Calvin Johnson, but I admire them. I root for our team, the Redskins.
I'd still watch and cheer for our current players, but I have a tough time respecting an organization caving into political correctness like this.
More to the point, if the name changes, I deeply resent the conclusion that I and every Redskin fan must be racist for saying HTTR all these years. That's not what Skins fans believe cheering FOR the team, but the implication of the name change is damning. Screw the PC crowd and the organization if the name changes.
SFREDSKIN 09-13-2013, 10:21 PM If it came to the Redskins changing their name and all alternatives were exhausted, then Braves would be only name acceptable. Braves was their original name and it is mentioned in HTTR fight song which had the lyrics changed in the 80's.
Hail to the Redskins!
Hail Victory!
Braves on the Warpath!
Fight for old D.C.!
Run or pass and score -- we want a lot more!
Beat 'em, Swamp 'em,
Touchdown! -- Let the points soar!
Fight on, fight on 'Til you have won
Sons of Wash-ing-ton. Rah!, Rah!, Rah!
Hail to the Redskins!
Hail Victory!
Braves on the Warpath!
Fight for old D.C.!
The previous lyrics (1962 to '80s) were:
Hail to the Redskins!
Hail, victory!
Braves on the warpath!
Fight for Old D.C.!
Scalp 'em, swamp 'um
We will take 'um big score
Read 'um, Weep 'um, touchdown
We want heap more
Fight on, fight on, till you have won
Sons of Washington
Rah! Rah! Rah!
skinsfaninok 09-13-2013, 10:24 PM I agree braves or might as well start over
SFREDSKIN 09-13-2013, 10:29 PM How would Jack Kent Cooke have handled this naming fiasco? He would tell everyone to **** themselves just like Danny has. Changing the Redskins name is like getting neutered, you lose your name, logo, fight song, probably even the band. Special things that make the Redskins unique, might as well go root for the lizards or Wizards.
skinsfaninok 09-13-2013, 10:44 PM I'm glad I'm not alone with this bs.

I wouldn't pull for the team if they moved to LA. If it were a situation like Cleveland where they got their old colors/name/logo back, I'd continue rooting for them.
Second option: I'd probably just continue rooting for my 2nd team the home state Panthers.
SFREDSKIN 09-13-2013, 10:49 PM I'm glad I'm not alone with this bs.
How come no one is protesting the Cleveland Indians and having the media calling them the Cleveland baseball team? That's some BS!!
724Skinsfan 09-13-2013, 10:56 PM I can relate to SS scenario. I chose the Texas Rangers as my team because there was not a local baseball team in Washington. My dad told me the Rangers were moved from DC so I said "good enough" and have been a fan for ~30 years. When the the Nationals came to town I thought for sure switching to the home team would be hard at first but would eventually be able to root for them. I'm no closer to being a Nationals fan now than I was when they first started out. Still a Rangers fan.
So if they were moved to another town with a new name I would probably remain with that team regardless if a new Redskins team were formed in DC.
