Wow! I didn't realize just how attached I am to the name until I read through this thread. It's definitely a weird feeling. I'd be lying if I said I couldn't see both sides of this issue, but personally I feel like I identify so much with the team/traditions/memories that if one day they are no longer "The Washington Redskins" they'll never be the same to me. I'll always be a fan but it won't be the same.

I was talking about this today with a cowboys fan and I asked him what if they switched to "wranglers " or something and he said the same thing basically. And I agree it just won't be the same even if it's the warriors or senators or whatever it just won't be redskins.
I just can't see a change that involves the name, logo, and colors all together. Way too drastic and they would risk alienating way too many people. Might as well just pack up and leave if that was the plan.

If they moved and became the Los Angeles Redskins for example I'd be less inclined to remain a fan than if they stayed and changed the name to the Washington Federals.
How about this? Suppose Snyder says forget it, it's not worth it and sells the team. Someone buys the team and moves them to LA and calls them the Stars or whatever. ANd it's RG3 and company. But then the NFL grants an expansion team to DC and that team gets the Redskins name and colors, but it's different players. Who's your team?

For me neither because I don't live in the dc area.

I totally agree with your first point.
As for the second point, I'd probably remain a Washington Redskins fan. I guess I'd look at it as "players come and go, but the team as an institution remains."
I think I'd feel the same way in a scenario where Snyder relents and changes the team name to Warriors or whatever, but then LA gets an expansion and calls it the Redskins.
I'll always be a Washington football fan. But like I said before, they've been The Washington Redskins my entire life, my Dad's entire life, and most of my late family's entire lives and I think that's why the current name is so important to me.

You can always be a fan of both teams.
You have a good reason to be a fan of both. But if I had to pick one, I'd choose the team that moves to LA. Its like Washingtonians who were Oriole fans and then the Nationals come to town. You don't just become a fan right away and accept the new team in your hometown and ignore the other team you're attached to.

They (FSU) look like us (Skins).

Cool pics, monkeydad. Interesting to see what our helmets were like in-between the days of leather and the current headgear.

Not according to Suzan Harjo. The American military are called soldiers. Warriors is specific to Indians according to her. The ones doing the fighting for Indians were called Warriors or Braves. If we are doing away with a name that some Indians say is derogatory to them to another name that Indians say is derogatory to them seems somewhat ridiculous to me. Im against changing the name, but if we do, we shouldnt go right back to what is considered derogatory by a handful of people.
Amanda Blackhorse has already said that if they can get Redskins to fall, they are going to try to get all of them changed. But they dont want to get people against them that support all the other names for now. They hate the Warriors being used as a name and flat out call it derogatory to them. If we are going to allow the Indians complaining to decide sports names, then we shouldnt allow any of these names to be used.
How 'Indian' mascots oppress - Issues- Native Circle (http://www.nativecircle.com/mascots.htm)
This site points out most of the names that is called Racist by the ones fighting against the names. If the ones calling Redskins racist also call Warriors racist (which they absolutely do), then its pointless to change to Warriors.Suzan Harjo appears to be a liar and historical revisionist.

Good summary of the above here. I disagree with this author on the Redskin logo, but he agrees with Goddard about the name. Draw your own conclusions.
