Antoine Winfield retires | ProFootballTalk (http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2013/08/31/antoine-winfield-retires/)

Dosen't look like he will becoming here.

Saying he's retiring may just be a way to be able to choose which team he goes to.

He is a free agent, he has that option without saying he is retiring.

No, he's not a free agent yet. He can be picked up off the waiver wire. And the Seahawks probably were thinking about trading him before making this announcement.

Hopefully for us it was just a tactic to avoid being traded to a bad team for a 7th rounder. If Seattle thought he would retire if cut...they wouldn't pursue a trade. Who knows...but it is a bummer.

Once you have 4 years of service in the NFL, there is no waiver wire. Waivers are only for younger players. He is whats called a vested veteran, meaning he is outright cut and doesnt deal with waivers. He is a free agent.

Editing to add: A vested veteran only deals with waivers if he is cut after the trade deadline. It doesnt apply to this situation, but I cant honestly say they never deal with waivers.

Are they going to IR Briscoe or was he just cut?

Alright Pat White. I'm glad they kept him. They should have cut Grossman and let Nick Williams make it. Cousins and White are all we need and Nick Williams is a poor man's Wes Welker. Maybe even a Rouge Hooligan's Wes Welker but I would have loved to have him made the team.

Didnt know that but still not going to concede anything to you. There was still a good chance if the seahawks trading him before releasing him. So there you go. Ha!
