WASHINGTON
Robert Griffin III (knee) continues to progress according to plan. He’s sustained no setbacks whatsoever after gradually increasing his reps each day and moving from 7-on-7 to 11-on-11. He’s not expected to play in any preseason games, but it will be a surprise if he’s not under center when the Redskins face the Eagles in Week 1. … Roy Helu is finally healthy after dealing with heel and toe issues for the better part of two years. Predictably, he’s running circles around Evan Royster and is on track to handle third-down duties and be Alfred Morris’ backup. … Fred Davis is reportedly looking explosive and speedy just nine months after his Achilles’ rupture. He should be creeping up draft boards. … Speaking of health, Pierre Garcon (toe, shoulder) has been able to sustain it so far. If he continues to feel good, he’ll far exceed his fifth-round ADP. … Garcon’s backup, Aldrick Robinson, has been one of camp’s standouts. Leonard Hankerson is scuffling

I'd think its a little premature to think Wilson could be a cut, way too many questions in the secondary and we havent even played the first preseason game. CB and Safety positions will be something to watch closely. My biggest concern right now is Merrieweather's knee, is he still being held out of practice?

I mean its going to be risky because josh Wilson is a starter for us and knows NFCE starting WRs better than Crawford, Amerson and Minnifield. But his potential is capped, IMO. We've seen what Josh can do. We have no clue what Minnifield Amerson or Crawford can do as starters. Injury wise, any of these guys can get injured at any moment, but Chase Minnifield is a much bigger question mark than the other guys since he's had more than one torn ACL and the feared 'micro fracture surgery' so he is probably more likely to be hurt than the other guys. That's basically what it comes down to, is do you want to keep a starter who counts a good sum of money to our cap, is already a known against NFC East WRs, stays healthy, and will be gone next year OR do you want the unknown who has looked really good in practice this month, has major injury problems, hasn't played against any NFL competition outside of practice and is younger with more potential than Wilson right now in their respective careers?

Should get real interesting in a few weeks

Rambo will start at FS Week 1...great to see him taking over that spot so early.

Amerson is getting a ton of 1st-team reps also, but that could be due to Hall's absence. I think he'll lock up the nickel spot and that's probably the best spot for him until he gets over his tendency to look into the backfield and get torched deep. If he's in a position where it's an obvious passing down, he can attack the ball and get a dozen INTs in a season like he's done in the past. Yeah, that's being WAY too optimistic at the pro level but he can be a turnover machine if used right...as can Rambo.

I'm calling it now, we lead the NFL in takeaways this year. With 'Rak and Kerrigan back together and this ball-hawking secondary, we're going to be a nightmare.

My call for secondary Week 1 starters:

CB - Wilson and Hall
Nickel - Amerson

SS - Meriweather, Thomas if not healthy and WHEN Brandon goes down for season
FS - Rambo

Meriweather hopes to get some work Monday in full team drills (http://www.washingtonpost.com/blogs/football-insider/wp/2013/08/03/meriweather-hopes-to-get-some-work-monday-in-full-team-drills/)

I just think we are going to be really good again this season but even better than last yr. It's amazing to think the Redskins will be contenders for years to come after all that we have been through.

Agree on the assessment of Wilson - we know what he can do. At the same time, he is a quality NFL player who can hold down a starting CB position in the league. With decent safety help, I think he is "good enough" and shouldn't be cut just to make room for other question marks. If he is cut, he will be off the waiver wire in a heartbeat.

Meriweather is being held out of a lot of practice because of recurring swelling.

One guy in the secondary Im not sold on is Biggers. I dont see an advantage of cutting Wilson and leaning on Biggers to play on a high level in the slot while we bring along a rookie on the outside.

Another question IF Wilson would be cut, is Amerson more NFL ready than Crawford and Minnefield? I dont think he is.
