Who will the Redskins miss the most?MTK 03-13-2005, 01:26 PM vote and discuss, who will the team miss the most in 2005? Duffman003 03-13-2005, 01:44 PM I think our linebacking core is still more than enough, and our wide reciever core didn't really get any worse from coles. So I think losing Smoot will have the biggest impact. Daseal 03-13-2005, 01:46 PM Smoooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo oooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo oooooooooooooooooooooooooooot Gmanc711 03-13-2005, 01:48 PM I too think our linebacking core is going to be just fine without Perice. I think Greg Williams made Perice a great player, and can do the same putting someone else in his place. Thats not too say Perice wont be missed, because I'm sure he is going to have a great career in NY and I think he's a great player. So I have to say Smoot. I think its going to be much harder to plug another guy in at Cornerback than I do linebacker. So I'll say Smoot. Good Riddance to LC. MTK 03-13-2005, 01:53 PM I think it's tough to say. In Pierce we're losing a very smart MLB who was basically the QB of the defense, that role will need to be taken on by someone else. In Smoot we're losing a very good cover corner who played hurt and was a fan favorite. In Coles... we're losing a guy who doesn't want to be here so who cares. Personally I'll miss Pierce the most with Smoot a close second. Sammy Baugh Fan 03-13-2005, 02:13 PM I answered Smoot but having said that I don't think any of those three will be the reason we do or don't make our potential. I'm still putting my money on the Coach. Viva le Gibbs! peace mike aka sammy baugh fan AndySkinUK 03-13-2005, 02:24 PM Tough call but i would say Pierce. He was the QB of the D and a great find. Smoot was a good CB, but not as good as Springs. Coles and his 90 catches wont be replaced by 1 guy but i think the Moss/Patten combo will catch as many balls as the Coles/Gardner combo. BossHog 03-13-2005, 02:29 PM I initially thought Pierce, but Coles was down right tough! It seems we have some character on defense and another guy will step up because of that. On offense, hmmmm. All of these guys have skills and speed, but Thrash seems to be the only consistent WR to show his guts. It never fails to amaze me how so many fans won't let go of Smoot. I don't recall all of this 'love' for Champ. Maybe Stephen Davis though. Let it go guys. :oink: Sheriff Gonna Getcha 03-13-2005, 02:34 PM I think it's a VERY tough call. Coles It depends on his toe situation, our offensive system in 2005, Santana Moss and who we draft. If he finally gets over his toe and becomes the explosive wideout we got when we first traded for him, I think there will be a lot of talk about how we miss him. If he heals well and our offensive system does in fact change to a more "open, downfield" system, Coles might have stopped complaining and our offense would've really benefitted. But those are a lot of ifs. I think how Coles' departure affects us also depends on how Santana Moss plays. If Moss looks like the Moss of 2003, Coles' departure will look like a blessing; we'll have gotten a cheaper player who wants to be here who has a smalller impact on our cap - a great deal. If our wide receiving corps plays like I think it will, we'll need to have drafted a wideout. So, there are so many variables in predicting the impact of Coles' departure that it's hard to make an accurate prediction. Pierce If Pierce continues to play like he did in 2004, we'll miss him terribly. He got a deal that was significantly less than the deal we gave to Trotter and he vastly outplayed Trotter. Plus he's younger, more intelligent, quicker, and can play OLB. Finally, it depends on who fills in for Pierce. If Barrow comes back healthy, Pierce's loss won't mean much. If Marshall can play as well at MLB as he did in 2004 at OLB, Pierce's loss won't mean much. Again, so many variables. Smoot Smoot's departure probably won't have that big of an impact on our 2005 team, but his loss could be more significant in 2006 and beyond. Harris will likely fill in well for Smoot, but he's old and we need some young, starting-caliber corners. Harris likely has one, or at most two, solid seasons left in the tank. So, I'm going to go with Smoot's loss having the biggest impact on our team. ST21 03-13-2005, 03:30 PM who cares....they gone |
