I got mixed feelings on the Barnett signing. But the pickings are pretty slim at this point.
To be honest, my bigger question is about next off-season. Let's assume London is gone. Even if Keenan is healthy is he ready to step in to a starting role after nearly two years of not being able to play and develop on the field?
But we can worry about that later

Given that Keenan is oft-injured and Fletch is near the end, perhaps we should use some of our restored cap space next year to sign a hotshot ILB out of free agency.

speaking of linebackers, Riley needs to get an extention.
I def dont think you start an injury prone ILB who hasnt seen the field in a year and half. Id say look at the market and bring someone in reasonable.

I really like the Nick Barnett signing. I know he is over 30, but he and Riley could be our ILBs for the next few years once Fletcher leaves until the Skins draft a younger guy. I am worried that time is going to catch up with Fletcher this year and he will miss some games with little nicks here and there. The knock on Barnett is that he can't cover but is a great run stopper. Fletcher can't really cover either, so there may not be much of a downgrade if Barnett has to play some.
Thankyou for voicing LF's covering deficiency. I feel like at his age, he does all he can. Super smart/great leader, but too short to defend the middle. Even with great coverage, a good pass to a TE can't be defended by a shorter LF. Granted M.Williams is no longer here to NOT help, LF gets exposed a lot covering TE's. but if the play stays in front of him, he's making much needed INT's.
Wish we had LF a few years earlier. Better not be any denying his HOF entry when the time comes.
About Barnett- good signing. Not sure what his contract is worth$. ILB depth isn't a concern and I think preseason will sure up lingering uncertainty at LDE and DB positions. Hail yeah!

I agree with this 100%
I expect us to draft highly and/or sign highly an ILB next year. After Perry, there's more questions than answers on the depth chart.
i dont understand why barnett was available and was left sitting on the shelf in the bargain aisle.
admittedly i havent followed the NFl as much over the past 2 years but i thought barnett and matthews were going to be a LB duo for the pack for years to come . . maybe the rodgers signing really crunched their cap space .. but to be able to take a flyer on a nick barnett and see what he can contribute is a very nice luxury imo.
im just worried why no other team picked him up earlier.
Barnett was in Buffalo the last 2 years.
He was probably on the NFL scrap heap because he's a 32 year old LB. While he's still been productive there's not a huge market for LBs his age.

I watched Barnetts Press conf. He seems like he is a good team guy and has a good attitude. Like Matty said, he is 32 and teams don't really go after players that age anymore.

Good to see Pierre Garcon's doing what it takes to get better.

barnett led the bills in tackles last year i think.... not a bad signing at all IMO
Not a good measuring stick, actually. As a LB that lead in tackles for a team that gave up over 145 ypg on the ground last season (Ranked 31) does not favor him really.
Good guy to put in as a relief and can fill a void in the event of injury.
Lots of vets still out there looking for work. His age is a factor, but the way the new CBA is structured with vet minimums and such, it is just cheaper for teams to develop through the draft.
