Aaron Hernandez: How a Potential NFL Great Couldn't Escape a Life of Violence | Culture News | Rolling Stone (http://www.rollingstone.com/culture/news/five-revelations-from-rolling-stones-aaron-hernandez-story-20130827)

I'm looking forward to reading this story. As far as the drug allegations go, I wonder if widespread drug/ped abuse is possible in the NFL. It seems like we hear a lot about illegal substances being used but players not being caught. Also if the part about Urban Meyer is true, that will be disappointing. With all the stories that come out of the NCAA (most of them negative) you gotta wonder how much covering up goes on. It's pretty sad that football culture dictates programs put winning a championship and/or making money over everything else.

Looks like Rolling Stone is trying to sell magazines again...

First how are you almost cut when just got an extension, second Urban Meyer would not cover up a drive by shooting, just how ridiculous is that statement. I know Urban Meyer is a first class POS, but covering up a drive by? No.

Hernandez was a heavy user of angel dust? what? are they failed drug test or any evidence at all? And why angel dust, I mean ive know some people with substance abuse problems and they got help and got better. But ive never known anyone who said angel dust was their drug of choice. I could be believe maybe Hernandez experiemented, but a heavy user or addict to that? No way.

Rolling Stone needs to focus on music, they are really on a losing roll imo.

Considering the craziness of what we already know about the guy, I don't think anything is out of the question including him being on drugs or people covering up for him.

I mean shit, look at how deep the whole Penn St. deal went. Doesn't seem logical that something like that could happen but it did.

Rolling Stone has always focused on pop culture, social issues, politics, and of course music. They're not a one trick pony.

Brian Dawkins on ESPN Sports Center on the decision to put a huge banner of Flacco on Sports Authority Field (Mile High):

"It's not Denver's fault that the Orioles said no to the Ravens (For the use of the stadium) but for people to say it's no big deal. IT'S A HUGE DEAL! I can't imagine, as an Eagles player or fan, that they put a Cowboys player on our stadium. Are you serious?!? For them to put a picture of the player that beat us in the playoff last season, reopen that wound? Are you serious, NFL?"

Really enjoyable to hear a player voice the same kind of loyalty and 'crazy' that we all feel about our team. Dawkins is one of the very few non-Redskins players that I have deep feelings for (like Mongo).

Stupid move by Denver. I'm sure they were pushed by whichever TV network or even the league to hang those banners, but I'd also hate to see a banner of the team that just beat is in the playoffs up on our home stadium. Imagine us hanging a Russell Wilson or worse, Dick Sherman banner up!

So much for trying to maintain a home field advantage, Denver.

I'm sure some fans in Mile High own paintball markers with blue and orange ordinance.

Bring back game-day Shenanigans!

Jets' 3rd-string QB Greg McIlroy sprained his knee in practice.

Mark Sanchez - hurt and is Mark Sanchez
Geno Smith - plays like he's hurt and can't read NFL defenses
Greg McIlroy - hurt

They just signed Graham Harrell to play in the 4th preseason game. Geno won't play because if Sanchez can't go Week 1, they'll need him to start! Matt Simms (son of Phil) will start the last preseason game and has a chance to beat out McIlroy.

Does anyone else remember when Aaron Curry was specifically described as a "can't-miss" prospect?

His uneventful NFL career has ended.

Still can't believe a baseball team couldn't reschedule one game out of their 1000 game season to accommodate an opener.

Really compelling counter arguments there Chico.
