Yes, things are going to change in the upcoming weeks. I would hate to see another injury prone DE (see Daniels) signed. :oink:
Starting with Bruce, we just keep signing older, more mediocre talent on the defensive line. Well, maybe not older than Bruce Smith. But I still cant get the bad taste out of my mouth whenever we talk about free agent defensive linemen.

You mean the savy running back who had been in the year for a massive two years? That's not exactly what I consider a veteran. Our WRs are good enough that we can bench a rookie, but not so good we have time to develop one next year. Get him now, start him working. We're fine everywhere else.
Give Daniels a chance! He has one season where he has injury problems. I have a feeling there's a reason everyone says wait till he comes back!

I imagine we'll give up our first round pick for Doug Flutie, or some other equally bone-headed move.

My question to you is what has Mike Williams proven other than his slow ass 40 times?
You're kidding right? He's proven as much, if not more, than any incoming draftee coming out of college. Take a look at his stats against major competition. Talk to any of the scouts that saw him at the combine or at his private workout. Talk to David Greene. If you say he hasn't proven anything in the NFL yet, I'm sure Erasmus James or Marlin Jackson has?
Let's remember, Jerry Rice didn't have all world speed either- not saying BMW will have a career that stands even close to Jerry, but the comparisons of hands is already there.

Mike Williams would be perfect. A big play guy, a HUGE end zone target. But, if history is any indication, we'll mess things up royally.

I don't know if he is. But we do pick early in that round and the observed talent 'below' Heath Miller falls off pretty steeply. In other words, there maybe higher rated players at other position that teams may covet. :oink:
He'll be gone by the top of the second round. There's no way he'll last till the third.

I assume we're talking about Troy Williamson. The answer is yes. We have already addressed our starting WR corps. Sorry for the dose of reality. :oink:
I think you're right that we have addressed our starting WR corps. And that's precisely what worries me. Santana Moss is the guy who the Jets were about to demote to their #3 WIDEOUT. David Patten had solid numbers and could be a top notch number 2, but he's not going to light up opposing defenses. Taylor Jacobs has what 5 catches in his career? James Thrash....nuff said.
I have the creepy feeling that we're trying to do with out WR corps what we did with our D-line two years ago.....get a bunch of mediocre players who we hope to get the most out of.
Considering how many people bitched about our WR corps last year, I find it surpring that people seem content with our current WR corps. Does anyone really think we've improved our offense with the loss of Coles and Gardner and the addition of Moss and Patten?

You're absolutely right. We're WAY worse off than we would have been. I think Moss is better than Gardner (we should have drafted him initially), but he has durability problems. Coles was good, but obviously unhappy. SO WHAT! We're taking a 9million dollar cap hit because the guy wasn't happy??!!! Lot's of people aren't happy at work. You make a commitment, you should stick it out. We didn't have the cap room to accomidate him and it was stupid to trade him. Even if we didn't trade him, we could have had cap room to pick up a guy through FA had he decided to sit.
My thought: We're set at QB, stick with Ramsey. We're GREAT at RB, Portis is going to be good for a long time. Our OL is good, no needs there. Our WRs STINK. That's by far the deficiency in our offense. Look at teams like the Rams, Even the Eagles with Owens, the Vikings (who's defense sucks), they all have good WRs. You need a good passing game to open up the run game. You become one dimensional, you can't do anything. Our defense is good enough; the glaring needs are at WR, start there.

Receiver David Boston, who was cut by the Dolphins earlier this week after failing a physical, has drawn interest from the 49ers and could sign a minimum-salary contract once his surgically repaired knee is healthy.
-- Miami Herald
if boston will play on a minimum salary contract we should get him

If we can just get our receivers set before the snap and keep our linemen from jumping offsides 10 times a game we will be better than last year.
