SkinsRock 03-11-2005, 04:49 PM You got it BossHog! Finally, someone that agrees with me and isn't completely enamoured with the top WR's in the draft. Not to say they wouldn't be good, but WR is probably only second to QB in terms of 1st round "locks" becoming busts.
Gibbs is modeling this team after teams like the Patriots, and HIS teams in the 80's....blue collar, team-oriented mentality. We will be fine with the WR's we have. They are better than the group Philly had before last year, and comparable to NE's group of the past few years....plus two of them (Thrash and Patten) know what it was like in those winning environments. We have 5 receivers that could be at least a #2 or #3 on any NFL team....at least one of them is bound to step it up and take the lead spot.
And I totally agree that they will probably pick up a WR in a later round, but I think more as a "project" to groom for a couple years on the practice squad.
I see them trading down to pick up a 2nd or high 3rd rounder and going defense with the first one or two picks (CB and maybe DE).
BossHog 03-11-2005, 04:49 PM i stated in another forum a while ago:
Round1: Erasmus James DE Wisconsin
Round2 (trade down):Fabian Washington CB Nebraska
round3(gardner trade to cleveland):Matt Jones WR Arkansas
round3: Lorenzo Alexander DT California
round4:Chase Lyman WR California
round5:Martin Patterson MLB TCU
round6:Kelly Griffeth TE Fort Hays St
round7:Scott Young OG BYU
And that what I'm sticking to
You're on point! I am, however, tired of Matt Jones' name popping up. Get off of it.
Gmanc711 03-11-2005, 04:54 PM I'm curious... so if Williams was available with out #1 pick would you pass him up?
No way! Unless someone is offering a very nice trade up package, I think we have to take that guy. We have a team full of #3 recivers; and a #2. Now could we make it work, yeah. If our running game is dangerous and Ramsey is on cue then we could make it work with me and Cypane 5 running routes. However, I dont think we can assume that our offense is going to get that much better overnight; so I think if Williams is there, we need that threat on the team. Just having him on the feild will take pressure off of Santana Moss, and then all those quick hits we keep thinking about could become reality. Now, if someone is offering a nice package then I say we have to think about it. But if Williams is there; our offense was just too bad last year to go untouched.
sportscurmudgeon 03-11-2005, 04:56 PM BossHog:
Do you really think Alex Smith (TE Stanford) is going to be around in the third round? If he is, that might be the biggest steal of the day. I know folks here love the kid from UVa, but I think Alex Smith is at least as good and definitely has better hands.
Oh, and you had me confused for a moment with your entry "C Vince Carter Oklahoma" My first thought was Vince Carter is a forward and plays for the New Jersey Nets...

I agree. Gibbs has hand picked the guys he feels is going to make this offense go. And I believe Greg Williams has the final say on the defensive side. :oink:
SkinsRock 03-11-2005, 04:57 PM Another thing about the CB position, I think we are set for this year with Springs/Harris, with Wilds at nickleback, but it would be great if we could do similar to what the Eagles did and have a couple young guys ready to take over for Springs and Harris in a year or a couple. I think Wilds may be one of those guys, and if we draft a CB in round 1 or 2, we'll have the other.
Daseal 03-11-2005, 04:58 PM We're going with Edwards or Williams if they're on the board. Gamechanging receivers. Gibbs says McCants is still there, but I think it's a ploy so people don't think we go receiver. There's a reason McCants didn't play last year. As Gmanc said we don't have a #1 receiver. I don't see Moss as a #1, and Jacobs is too unproven. Patten still has a lot to show too. We need a bigtime receiver, and though they can be busts, they can also pay huge dividends. Lets give Ramsey someone young he can grow with so one day the Williams/Jacobs package is envied by all!
SKINZ_DOMIN8 03-11-2005, 05:00 PM If the Redskins are stupid enough to pick a cornerback with the #9 overall pick then they truly are idiots. I don't think Joe Gibbs would be that stupid.

I don't know if he is. But we do pick early in that round and the observed talent 'below' Heath Miller falls off pretty steeply. In other words, there maybe higher rated players at other position that teams may covet. :oink:

If you're stupid enough for this to be your first post you are one too. :oink:
