Rex didn't take a snap last year, and I don't think he was even on the active roster most of the year. He has averages more than 1.1 interceptions per game he's played in. Sure, he's great as an experienced QB in system, but as the OP stated - in that case he could be a QB coach, and not use a roster spot. Not sure he'd be snapped up by any other team. Leftwich, Leinert, V.Young, Thigpen, T.Edwards, J.Russell, S.Rosenfels are all still available -- so not sure if anyone else would pick Rex up if we let him go..
BUT YES we're probably going to keep Rex as the safe option. But the OP asked if about what could happen if P.White looked good, whether to consider keeping him - and I think it's reasonable to say that he'd at least have a chance. Esp if Griffin is back to normal.. Heck, we took a chance on Banks for years and wasted that roster spot...

Pat White is already useless. I believe he was brought in to simulate Griffin in camp while he's out, but RGIII is going to be up to full speed by then.
He'll probably be one of first cuts...I doubt he'll see a preseason snap.
Rex is a far better emergency QB than White, or probably anyone else we could bring in.

I thought White was coming in to try and be the playmaker that Banks couldn't be, per SS back when we signed him?
I could be wrong.

No. I thought I had clarified what I had said before. Anyway, what I said (or at least meant to say) is that that would be the only he could make the roster. If he showed some skills-outside of QB-that would compel the coaches to keep him
MD is probably right, if RG3 is a full go for camp and it seems like he will be, it's hard to imagine White sticking around for too long.

Boom... Thanks for the clarification. Then yeah he won't be around long

Well... good question...
I'd take Pat White. Anyone over RG1. I don't care that he is older and wiser, he has "ZERO" mobility, is only good for 1 long pass per game. All his passes are 15 yrds or shorter and aimed at the dirt.
I'd just prefer to go younger and mobile. But.... Cousins can't go on the practice squad and neither can White so .... so we keep 3 QB's on the roster? I guess they could see who is best between Cousins and White and de-activate which ever one should be third string.

Personally all White would have to do is show he somewhat understands the playbook, shows he can connect down field more then once in a game, and show he's mobile and can run the spread offense.
I picture Grossman gone after preseason.

I would bet real money that Rex is on the final 53.

I would bet $100 Monopoly money, nothing more.
