Wow! Some Great Insight into Coles' DepartureRedskins8588 03-09-2005, 05:10 AM All I know is that I wish that Snyder would send a flat screen TV my way!!! That would be awsome!!!! MTK 03-09-2005, 08:33 AM Like I said in another thread, sounds like things got out of control and emotions got involved after the story was leaked on Feb. 21. I can see both sides of the issue, I'm just glad it's over. jbcjr14 03-09-2005, 08:49 AM Send his FL State ass back to NY. Hope he can pass his physical up there this morning. dirtbag2112 03-09-2005, 09:43 AM I read that we threw the ball to Coles more than any other reciever in the NFC!!!!!!! And LC disparages a classy head coach and claims we only run the ball. Are you kidding me!??!?! See ya Coles!! Daseal 03-09-2005, 09:47 AM yeah - 40 of those passes were behind the line of scrimmage too. BrudLee 03-09-2005, 09:48 AM Look again at Demasio's article. Here's the crucial bit: Indeed in the final meeting in mid-February, Gibbs tried to reconcile with his disgruntled player, Coles said. Gibbs explained he planned to open up the offense. Coles said he apologized if he had been a locker-room distraction. Coles said he took notes during the meeting. "It went great," Coles said. "After that, he thought we might be able to work things out." However, Coles said that the situation disintegrated after a Feb. 21 article in the Washington Post that described his unhappiness with the Redskins and reported that the two sides had reached an oral agreement that would likely lead to his release. The Redskins and Coles accused each other of disclosing private information, Coles said, and disagreed on a solution. The February 21st article was written by Demasio. If Demasio doesn't write the story, Coles may well still be a skin, Smoot gets more of an offer, and things are much happier in skins land. I know that's what sportswriters are suppossed to do, but man, talk about screwing with the home team. :vomit-smi And Demasio hasn't released his sources, so only he knows who is responsible. I honestly believe it was someone from the Coles camp - probably without his knowledge. The person with the most to gain from Coles moving was... his agent. redwagonskins 03-09-2005, 09:49 AM Redskins8588: No kidding, maybe if I limp around and bitch about not getting enough beers at the tailgate, Snyder will send a flat screen my way so I can watch from home! jdlea 03-09-2005, 10:10 AM yeah - 40 of those passes were behind the line of scrimmage too. Good point hurrykaine 03-09-2005, 11:45 AM What this boils down to is immaturity - on the part of both Coles and Gibbs. Seems like Gibbs could've merely said to Coles - "Look, I assure you we'll throw downfield a great deal more next season." For his part, Coles should've sucked up the fact that he was going to have less than a 1000 yards for the season, and not let his "me first" attitude get in the way of the team. We were trying to win that last game against the Vikes, not set up a passing clinic. That said, its funny to see how many posters, most of whom adored Coles while he was here, called him a true "consumate team-player" and "warrior", are now calling him "bitch" and "thief", and asserting how he's not that good. Then there are others such as Mike Wise, who are now adopting the Pastabelly approach of questionning whether Gibbs will be successful in his second stint. My plan is to wait two seasons. I'll give Gibbs 3 years as a head coach - if he can't get us into the playoffs in year 3, can the old man's ass - at that point, he's clearly not proficient at gauging talent without a GM, and the game has clearly passed him by. I'll be the first one to give Kudos to Pastabelly for having the guts to say this before last season even began. A large part of me hopes this will be our year - a lackluster offseason with modest signings and more draft picks - hopefully, we will be a healthy team, have no key injuries on Offense or Defense, and play consistently on offense. I'm less worried about the defense. Greg Williams had a top-ranked defense while he was head coach at Buffalo - there was no Smoot on that team - only Antoine Winfield, who is not as good as Springs. BleedBurgundy 03-09-2005, 11:56 AM I think Danny's been watching mafia movies... "I'm gonna bench your ass, fuck with your career, and then I'll send you a flatscreen so you can watch from home..." That little exchange, if it happened, has renewed my faith in snyder. Everyone always defends the player's right to "get paid." As we all know, it's also the bosses right to say "Get back to work or you're fired." I don't feel sorry for Coles. I just hope his toe passes the physical... |
