I don't disagree with anything you've said. There are always subtleties when discussing such philosophical principals. At the same time, we westerners have that silly principle of innocent until proven guilty. If the uncle is complicit, it will come out. To parse his words looking for a way to impugn him, however, is not proof of anything.

The uncle just gave a live press conference, and called on the suspect to turn himself in and ask forgiveness from the bombing victims and the families of the same. He also said they brought shame to the name of all Chechens. He didn't sound insincere, he sounded indignant and angry.

I get the argument about taqiyya in the comments, thought it was interesting, but listening to him live, I don't think that's what he was doing

I agree, plus he's probably a Redskins fan.

I think the poster is reading faaaaar too much into it and misapplying the term taqiyya. The uncle also called his nephew "a loser". To me, the uncle would not have used the derogatory term if he was invoking taqiyya - which is a self protection and limited in application to hiding was beliefs if that person is under immediate, mortal harm (further, Chechens are generally Sunni which doesn't recognize taqiyya as a formal principle since it was developed by the minority Shia muslims in response to majority Sunni oppression).

I would imagine that any follow-up will fully explore potential collaborators with these two. If the uncle is involved, I doubt he will be able to hide it. Until there is some evidence of that, however, I will take his statement at face value and assume he is both angered by and ashamed of the actions taken by his nephews.

I completely agree with you. It amazes me that some folks are trying so hard to stir up trouble which is not there, when there is plenty of real trouble already on our plate.

BTW Taqiyya is a concept born among the Shii and is especially embraced by the Druze. It does have very limited application in Sunni realms, but al Tabari and other Sunni theologians have justified it only as a last resort in very limited situations. Many Sunnis look down on the practice as a Shii practice and therefore an inferior (to them) practice.

Obviously the brothers had a very poor post-bomb plan. If I knew that I was wanted for a bombing, the last thing I would do is rob a 7-11.

Many radical moslems practice a different form of islam than the one your local imam will promote, regardless of whether sunni or shiia.
