Man, Coles was one unhappy dude - In the story, according to Coles, Gibbs "basically" said he didn't trust Coles and Coles said he didn't trust Gibbs.

I wonder what it was that they didn't trust each other about?

From the SI article:

Coles' main complaint about Gibbs was the coach's inflexible nature. "I didn't feel respected as a player," Coles said. "I know everything changed [when Gibbs succeeded Spurrier] but when you feel like you're one of the best players at your position, you'd think you could talk to a coach about the play-calling. We didn't have that situation. He called the plays. We ran them. That's where things fell off with me. I realize it's a dictatorship but there's only so much you can take."

Good ridance. :vomit-smi

You don't feel he has any sort of footing here? You feel as a great receiver you go to your coach and say "Hey coach, they like to do a), b) and c). I think if we tried a _____ then we would be able to get some yards.
coach: shutup and sit down - I call the plays.

Really - shouldn't you take input from players on the field who know a lot better than one man trying to watch every player on the field what's going on out there? Shouldn't you try to run plays that your players are comfortable with and feel they may accel with? Coles isn't asking for every play to be the one he suggests. Just to maybe mix it up some.

If it's a true and accurate statement, I would agree Daseal. But - I have a hard time believing Gibbs wouldn't want input from his players. Rather, this could be a classic case of two people who speak english talking in different languages.

He may listen, but it certainly didn't look like he implimented any plays Coles would have liked.

True enough. Of course, that doesn't mean the plays Coles would have liked would have worked any better.

One should listen to players. I don't know though, Gibbs seems to listen to Portis about plays.
