Todd McShay's newest mock draft has #Redskins drafting Gavin Escobar, TE, San Diego State at #51.

Can't block but I would be very happy with that pick.

That guy is built like Gronk.

If he is able to be a day one starter and put up solid numbers immediately. I could live with it.

Otherwise, I agree.

Depends which players are available. If the good safeties/corners are gone why reach for one that won't have nearly the impact that Escobar might have. It all depends on who is available at the time. Don't do what the Patriots do with corners/safeties, because it obviously never works. Every other position they draft the best player available, yet they reach for corners and safeties and it fails miserably.

All depends who falls to the Skins.

If he wasnt a day one starter, way bigger mistake in 2nd round. You go with Paulsen and look at a vet and there are solid TE in the 4th, 5th round.

They are starters in the secondary in the 2nd and 3rd round. Yes, its that deep.

Starters yes, but the type of impact Escobar might potentially have would be greater than what might be available. It's not just about finding starters to fill needs, its about finding the best players and getting them on your team. If a player like Trufant, or Elam is available, I would go with them, because they are greater players than Escobar, but if its between Thomas from Syracuse, Alford or Escobar because everyone else was taken, I would go with Escobar.

Redskins can improve on pretty much every position except QB and RB.

They said his blocking is very coachable. He played at a small school so his coaching and competition isn't NFL caliber. Give him to our TEs coach and hell make him a good/better blocker. Plus Fred couldn't block so it's not a droppoff from what we had. Improvement in my eyes.
