Rak is in his last year of his current deal, so if he has a good year we can't trade him.

I think BHA said trade mid-season. Anything wrong with that?

It's just not going to happen but it doesn't hurt to dream I guess.

Hmmmmm it could be a smart preemptive move. Not sure how Orakpo feels about playing out of position so to speak, but per his agent and contract talks the following year they'd be pretty smart to "market" Rak as a premier 4-3 DE pass rusher who's been poorly utilized. And then we see a 1st round pick just walk away without getting anything, let alone pretty underwhelming production during his time here.

A "forced" mid-season trade, especially if a 4-3 defense is desperate, might be the smartest move even if all we can get is say a 3rd round pick.

Like I said, keep dreaming.

We're not going to trade our best pass rusher mid season if he's having a good enough year to warrant a high pick.

I'm lost...you mean compensation pick if/when he walks away?

Aren't you talking about trading him during the season?

I don't understand the concept of trading away a key player during the season and hurting yourself in the process.

Guys that average nearly 10 sacks a year don't grow on trees.

Right, but if he indeed has a solid 2013 campaign, becoming a FA after the season, we'll face a bidding war. And again if his agent is smart they'll market Rak as a player poorly utilized, which is probably true i.e. capable of Jared Allen type production out of the 4-3...and then we get squat, right?

Trade him mid-season and at least get something. My assumption here is Rak probably won't be on our roster beyond this year regardless and isn't going to be the difference between winning a Lombardi.

What held him back when he was healthy before?

Trade Rak for a 3rd round pick? Madness.
