Lotus 02-24-2013, 09:32 AM Heck of a first post. This was so critical that you had to spam the board with 10 useless one liners eh?
Where does everyone stand on this?

Perhaps it is time to revisit this question. My thumb is down.
skinsguy 02-24-2013, 09:58 AM Football is full of traditions, this team is and will always be the Washinton Redskins. That is never going to change.
Making the assumption that all MD people are Ravens fan is pretty idiotic IMO. The team wouldn't be stupid enough to lose a fan base in DC and MD by moving the team to VA. The team and its facilities are always going to be somewhere in the DC area, accesible to fans from all three areas.

At the same time, the team didn't lose their VA fan base when they moved the stadium to MD, so I'm not sure why the assumption would be that they would lose their DC and MD fans if the team moved into VA? The team's facilities are located in VA now anyway, just stone's throw away from DC. And Being a life long VA resident up until just recently, VA is anything but Luke warm to the Redskins and pro football in general. Anyone thinking otherwise knows nothing about the state.

As someone stated, if the team were to move to No. VA, I don't think it would affect the fans much. This person that started the thread pretty much is saying that the Redskins ownership should cut ties with the DC and MD fans and move the team to VA, which to mean it would mean moving the team to a place like Richmond.
And being a lifelong DC Metropolitan area resident, I can tell anyone that:
a. There are many people native to DC that are Redskins fan (and who still live in the city)
b. All MD fans are NOT Ravens fans.

I didn't read anything into the OP that suggested all MD residents are Ravens fans, but I know of several Baltimore residents who used to be Redskins fans and are now Ravens fans. Like it or not, the Ravens are MD's primary pro football team, not the Redskins. The Redskins have a larger presence in VA. Richmond IS Redskins country. The Redskins are worshipped there. Likewise, the Redskins are pretty much the main team VA residents root for from NoVa down to Southside VA. So moving a stadium into VA would probably be more beneficial to the franchise than keeping it in MD. Ultimately, I think what is most realistic is for the team to build in NoVa or in DC. Certainly I have a bias in moving the team as far into VA as possible, so that I could attend more games, but I don't see the team moving a stadium deep into VA nor changing to the Virginia Redskins.

The Ravens are the primary team for certain places in MD. You go into areas like Montgomery, PG Co., and Southern MD, there are still a lot of fans that worship the Redskins. Heck, even where I live in Columbia there are quite of a lot of Redskins fans (to my surprise).
The stadium is going to stay in MD in the foreseeable future and probably move to DC eventually. It could go to No. VA, although personally I think the traffic in that area is the worst in the DC area and I think it would be a bad idea.
In the end the stadium will be accessible to the fanbase that has money, and that would most likely mean No. VA, DC, Montgomery Co., some parts of PG, and maybe Howard Co.
KERRAKPO9198 02-24-2013, 03:18 PM IMO the Redskins would be smart to build a new stadium in Virginia, anywhere in Virginia. They could either keep the name Washington Redskins or change the name to the Virginia Redskins. Either way they'll have a large fan base, if they changed their name to the Virginia Redskins they would gain some new fans, although they would lose some fans as well, it would all probably equal out. I seriously doubt they ever do this but regardless, the majority of their fan base resides in Virginia, the Redskins ARE Virginia's team, the Ravens are primarily Maryland's team. The Redskins are smart by keeping there training facility and headquarters in VA as well as moving their practice facility into VA. Why fight for fans in Maryland with the Ravens when you can stake claim to Virginia, which is a much larger state with more people?

This post is too simple minded, and I hope your day job doesn't include making business decisions.

With Virginia already diehard Skins, tbat would be more reason to stay in PG. No business simply cedes market share that it has a viable stake in it, instead it will normally invest in expanding into new markets. Your contention that Virginia is already diehard, along with the fact that there really isn't another franchise likely to take Va fans away en masse means the Skins likely will try to strengthen its Maryland presence not lessen it.
