What was at the stadium site before it was built? I thought I remember someone saying it was swampland at one time. I think the soil there is the bigger problem. The field issues aren't a new thing. It's been like that since the stadium opened.
I wouldn't be surprised, I heard once that DC was built on swampland. Obviously Fedex Field isn't considered DC but it's close enough that it could be swampland.
The field at RFK was no picnic either. By the end of the year it was just spray painted dirt.

I think the entire DC area is swamp land.

No doubt, the 82 and 91 Championship games were played in slop.

I have walked on it pretty nice stuff. Feels like grass to your footsteps but if you rub your hand across it you definitely know it is fake.

We had their turf manager come and speak to our horticulture class years ago at the school I teach at, it must've been prior to 2003. Damn time flies fast!
