I just want to point out to people that for years John Elway played with a bum knee and a knee brace. News reports date back to 1989 with stories about Elway's ubiquitous knee brace that he played with after he had his ACL surgically REMOVED early in his career.
RG3's favorite QB of all time is John Elway, Shanahan was Elway's coach. As such, it's easy to see how the two could ignore what everyone else was seeing. It was expected and normal to them.
Also, in looking at pictures of Elway I can't help but thing that Elway's knee brace design is far superior to the one that RG3 was outfitted with. It only has one joint, and it's on the outside, so it doesn't interfere with the running motion.

Granted, Elway's injury was not to his plant leg, so it didn't interfere with his throwing motion as much -- which in the end that may be the reason for the different brace -- but the history of RG3 and Shanahan all but made the decisions for them both yesterday afternoon.
