Says he thought they made a good enough deal that AP would stay here, was disappointed he decided to leave but he understood (also mentioned that AP switched representation midway through which forced negotiations to start all over)... I guess when they heard AP would rather make more as a giant Gibbs decided he didn't really want him back.

Said in talking to players and fans they felt part of the problem was a quick receiver and patten wass the ONLY WR the redskins looked into getting

The redskins are done with free agency unless someone else shows up on the cut list

Talked about the smoot deal... mentioned that its not fair to other players on the team to offer a bigger contract to a guy that hasn't played ass well (he was more diplomatic)... Basically that because of how well springs played with a $10mill bonus, they didn't want to imply that they thought smoot was more valuable and that bowing down and handing out big contracts sends a bad message to the rest of the team.

He's been extremely happy with last year's draft, he's happy with the O line now... till not sure if barrow will be able to play yet... Dline hasn't been touched because they haven't seen the right guy to be able to jump in and make the difference...

talked about marsshall being undersized, but that pierce was undersized too, and that he didn't care about the size of his WRs as long as they caught the ball (mentioned the smurfs).

oh well. im sure gregg williams will make our defense better without smoot and pierce. i guess that's it for free agency. i just hope that smoot will decide its not about the money.

Isn't that how free agency works? One guy gets a contract, then someone who may not be as good gets more because of market value? Letting Smoot walk would be a mistake in my opinion.

yeah, i dont really agree with it, but it really sounded like he was saying that springs busted his ass for his paycheck, and while smoot was good, he definately wasn't better than springs, so they didn't want to pay him more money.

I agree with Gibbs here. Springs had an outstanding season for us and is arguably the true #1 corner here. Smoot had a good year and deserves a nice payday, but $10M is a fair enough offer.

gotta remember we got springs on the "He's old and injured" discount in a free agency without a mad dash for CBs... seems like smoot fell off everyone's radar though... dallas wanted to pay a little bit less for a lot less CB in henry, KC has options for surtain and or rolle, etc etc... everyone that was looking hard for a CB has kinda found their guy, and smoot and law are a bit of the odd men out... at least until the initial deals are signed and the first wave dies down.

Thanks That Guy for the post. The Real Audio thing was 40 minutes long.

Matty,

I agree that Springs is a true #1 CB, but I don't see why we can't up the offer on the SB by $2 million.....it would only add about $350K per year in extra cap space - that's nothing.

Bottom line is that Smoot is offered a fair 10 million to stay with the team in hopes to keep things realistic in attaining the playoffs. Smoot wants to stay a skin than we need to work this out. I'm glad Coles is gone. Not cause I have his jersey on sale, but because he doesn't agree with the coaches outlook on a championship. Gibbs to me has improved the team incredibly with the additions of Patten and Rabach and ofcourse now with Moss for Coles. Sure Moss isn't Coles but he's not a cancer like Coles. Unfortunately Coles turned out to be a bitch like Deion. Getting paid and splitting and leaving us a huge cap hit. Coles was one of my favorite players, but it's really hard for me to know that you're making like 20 million and you 'don't wanna be here anymore'. The Redskins fans are the best in the world. And are not to be considered with the media. Coles is a bitch and even though he gave his all on the field he will retire with an ailing toe with no SB rings as we watch lucky Santanna Moss win a ring with Gibbs. I still believe Gibbs is righting our ship. I just traded Portis for Alexander in my madden league and shit works alot better that way, but I hope that with downfield threats Jacobs, Patten and Moss plus possibly a WR in the draft that it will open up Portis' ability to become the 2k5 John Riggins. In Gibbs We Trust!
