I would also add the colts and pats and packers to teams that won superbowls because of their offenses in recent history. However they were probably all better than ours - they certainly had playmakers that we dont. That being said i feel like there is a team mentality that has come over these guys because of RG-3 on offense and Fletch on defense. Did you see Kerrigan and the other guys faces when Fletch was giving his post game speech. Hes almost a player coach and I think he has them inspired. We will get CG back for the playoffs. I just have a feeling we are starting to roll at the rite time. A blowout win in one of the next two weeks will cement that feeling. I think its going to be Sunday.
Edit: i meant their defenses had playmakers that ours dont.

Tony K made a great point today.
Look at Some of our best players so far.
Griff
Morris
Cobra Kai
And yes cousins because of yesterday!
All rookies.
Forbath is technically a second year player. That being said, we need young players to step up on defense, just like young players have stepped on offense.

I think the penalties are a big problem and directly add to our third down % being low. We do a whole lot better at third and short. A lot of our drives seem to end when first down is either a penalty or a play gets blown up for a loss. Kyle has cut way back on those odd slow developing plays or the pure speed play to the short side of the field on third and short, although he still tries to be cute sometimes.
RG3 still doesnt read defenses like other veteran QB's do, so third and long, when teams can play strictly pass, is a big struggle for this him. We need to avoid that at all costs.
Good post. Our lack of success on 3rd down has been a "team effort." Penalties, drops and some errant throws are bad decisions by RG. 3rd quarter against the Ravens we had a 3rd and long with about 7:30 to play and RG through a perfect ball to Garcon (perfect because it was right between the defenders and into Garcon's hands/lap) but he bobbled and dropped it. The Ravens scored on their next possession to go up 28-20.

We are 16th and YPA, so we are mediocre, against the run it is just that teams don't try to run the ball against us because we are so bad against the pass. Otherwise we would be worst against the run. Plus our offense is so high tempo that we force other teams to pass more often.
If the Redskins are middle of the pack in rushing YPA allowed, how would that equate to 'worst against the run' if teams decided to run more? I don't follow the math.

in 2010 we were 13th with 5.6 penalties per game, in 2011 we were 8th with 5.0 per game. This year we are 31 with 8.1 per game. I put a lot of the penalties on rookies and the team as a whole getting this offense down. I remember several false starts and illegal shifts early on, I know we still are having penalties, but I think another offseason and the familiarity that most of our players will have with this system will lead us back down in terms of the pre snap penalties that tend to kill drives.
I think you nailed it as far as penalties go CCR. I've even heard Griffins cadence at times has fooled his own guys. I don't know how true that is but we've played some loud stadiums with a new QB, receivers, and guys still learning this system.

The one player on defense that I think is really missed is Chris Neild. Something about that guy they were able to put more pressure.

And Charles Mann. Seriously, Neild was better than Baker and Jenkins, I'm waiting for Jenkins to start producing (he had a nice play for a loss yesterday).

You know I had actually forgot about him for awhile until Rave brought him up. You're right. Hell he had 2 sacks in his first game as a pro. He did seem to push the pocket alot when he was in there. It'll be good to have him back.

What he's saying is we suck at both on defense, and that since we suck a little more at pass defense teams just attack that so much and see no point in running the ball on us when they can just have a field day passing on us.
