Background:

I have 4 children and 1 foster child. I live in a 3 story home where the bedrooms are upstairs and the playroom is downstairs. I constantly found myself yelling throughout the house whenever it was time for supper, bath, bed, or whatever I needed them for. It was very trying at times to round everybody up for whatever reason. I decided to place Motorola push-to-talk radios throughout the house because an intercom system is just too costly. Now I just press the call button announce the reason for gathering and the kids come running like little soldiers on a mission. My voice and patience have been spared.

Purpose of thread: Answer or comment on one or both of these questions.

1. Is this brilliant or lazy.

2. What cheap or practical remedies have you found to be useful in everyday life that everyone might not know about?

Cheap not lazy: Why didn't you buy all of them their own cell phones.

Only my teenager has a cellphone. They get cellphones in middle school in my house. With that being said, my teenager does not always carry her phone everywhere in the house. Aside from her we are talking about children between ages 5-10 who have been trained to ignore incomming phone calls on the home phone.

Just as an aside even though we are on the National "Do Not Call List" it does not prevent charities from trying to collect. Nobody answers the home phone except my wife and I, unless directed otherwise.
