2013 NFL Draft Prospects

What's so special about Mathieu? He's too small, he's not particulary fast, and he's not much of a tackler. Even in the later rounds, we can find CB's who are bigger, faster, and better pro prospects than Mathieu.

Adrian Bushell, Blidi Wreh-Wilson, and Leon McFadden come immediately to mind. Check them out.

Too Small? Same size as Brandon Flowers so that isn't an issue, not particulary fast? I would say a 4.5 is fast enough to play CB/S, not much of a tackler? Led LSU in tackles in 2011 with pro prospects such as Morris Claiborne, Brandon Taylor, Kevin Minter, Ryan Baker, Sam Montgomery, Barkevious Mingo, Michael Brockers, Eric Reid, Ron Brooks, and Anthony Johnson. Also, was a heisman finalist from the CB position and can return kicks. But, yeah he sucks. If he hadn't gotten kicked off the team for smoking pot would anyone be saying what is so special about him. But that too small argument is an agrument that needs to be put to bed forever. Except flowers excels with man coverage and yes I am sure, a lot of NFL analysts didnt have him as a first round prospect. Unlike Jenkins, burfict or othe players that had first round grades but dropped. I loved Jenkins and burfict coming out, but I don't think Matthieu is in the same ball park because he doesn't have the same NFL skills those players have. Still I like him in the later rounds. Not the third though.

76 tackles 1.5 sacks 6 forced fumbles 4 fumble recoveries 2 interceptions is a first round talent to me, I get he hasnt played in a year but to say he isnt worth more than a late round (5th-7th) is a bit of a stretch. Someone will take a chance on him in the 2nd or 3rd and get a special player.

Mathieu is the same heigh as antonie winfield. Its more so his weight that isn't NFL effective-a reported 178lbs. His speed is good. His stats are good. LSUs defense would use him in special packages to cover up his poor man coverage skills. Yes he did play man, but not as much as he played zone or blitzed.

I've said it before with mathieu, he can play. And if he can't play defense in the nfl, then the least he can do is be a great kick and punt returner. 3rd round is the earliest I'm going to get him.

Vontaze had first round talent, Mathieu was not a first round prospect even before getting kicked off. He was a second round prospect that struggles in man to man, lacks elite speed and lacks size. But he should be available in the later rounds and would definitely be worth taking by then.


Not sure I"m buying that. He wouldn't have went undrafted simply due to character concerns alone. Much of the concerns were about his football ability as well.

NFL Network’s Mike Mayock doesn’t think there’s a whole lot left to talk about. He has Burfict rated as an undrafted free agent.

“I put his tape on with absolutely zero preconceived notions,” Mayock explained in a Thursday conference call with media. “I watched three tapes and really didn’t like him as a football player.

“I think he’s a non-draftable kid. For me, he’s a free agent.”


Mayock was probably one of the only few that graded him as undraftable. (on talent alone)


Now, whether Vontaze used that as motivation to be better is another story all together. We really don't know if he's going to sustain this or go back to being aloof with his career once he thinks he's made it.

If we draft Mathieu as a CB I'll be fine with it, even though I think there are better CB prospects out there. He might make it at CB but a 175 pound safety isn't going to hold up physically in the NFL.
