Phillip Thomas, at 6-0, seems to be longer than Elam and he has exceptional ball skills. That's why I would prefer him at FS.I don't have anything against Thomas, as I said I think both can play FS. When you watch them play in college Elam has played more center field single high Cover 1/3 FS and that is the traditional role of a 'true' FS in the NFL.
Thomas played more like a 'money' LB/NB that plays in the box and matches up 1-on-1 vs a TE, RB or Slot player.

That said, I would gladly take either one of them.Agreed.

I agree with you that the safety class is strong. I like all of the following safeties:

I think Amerson has the skillset to be an NFL CB.
I like most of the S in the class tho. My favorite prospects are: Reid, Elam, Phillip Thomas, TJ McDonald, Swearinger, Duke Williams and Rashard Hall. I view those guys as making the easiest transition to NFL FS.
But I like these guys too: Vaccaro, Cyprien and Rambo but I view them more as SS types.

I think of Matt Elam more as a SS because he is such a great tackler and because he is 5-10.

I agree with you that the safety class is strong. I like all of the following safeties:

FS - Kenny Vaccaro, Phillip Thomas, David Amerson (I think he'll be a FS in the pros), Baccari Rambo, and Tony Jefferson.

SS - Matt Elam and Shawn Williams

I'm hopeful that we'll be able to draft one of these players.

I agree this safety class is deep. I love Cyrpien to add to your FS list. And a lot of scouts are high on JJ Wilcox, whom the skins have talked to already.

For those who said draft Nick Florence, per rotoworld

Baylor QB Nick Florence will not pursue a career in the NFL.
"I've decided to hang up my cleats and finish my master’s in December," Florence said. "My wife and I have spent the last one and a half months talking about it, and it all came down to what we wanted in life, and it didn't include playing football." It is an interesting choice, since far worse players have retired before entering the NFL, but it is refreshing to see this kind of life choice made prior to the draft.

Wow. I'm actually pretty shocked. He, I thought, had a future in the NFL holding Clipboards and occasionally play. I figured we could pick him up as a FA and see if he was worth keeping to develop behind RG3 just like at Baylor.

I can't imagine any profession that can match the earning potential of a back-up QB in the NFL. Not to mention the networking opportunities in broadcasting. Strange/wrong decision imo.

Funny you view Vaccaro, Cyprien, and Rambo more strong Safety. When Rambo is the best in this class playing one deep (FS), Vaccaro probably the most versatile safety, and Cyprien probably got the best read and react skills in this draft.

If all the above are facts as you present them to be then I don't see room for discussion.

HTTR (needless to say I disagree)

Unless he gets to the 6th round I'll pass on the tea leaves. He has headaches written all over him.
