This "he's not a serious coach" argument is such weak shit. What the **** does that even mean?
A serious coach gives you chance at winning any given football game. Notice I didn't say every game. I didn't say a playoff game. I didn't say the Superbowl. Simply, any given football game. I look at it as the most basic level of legitimacy for an HC, can you metaphysically put together a win.
With Mike, the answer is no far too often. Part of the story is what he forced in terms of defense. Part of the story is who he brought in to coach with him. And part of the story is what happens on gameday.
In some games a combination of players, luck and a few decent play-calls makes a win possible, but there are games where Mike Shanahan, for the reasons above, makes winning a metaphysical impossibility. It's why giving him another year or ten is nonsensical. When you're losing because of your coach, you need a new coach.

Shanahan seems to have a good track record with offensive talent?
Yes. Shanahan is deserving of a RB scout position, or maybe overall offensive player scout position. But he shouldn't be in any position to make personnel decisions.

Shanahan: 'Now we get a chance to evaluate players' | CSN Washington (http://www.csnwashington.com/redskins/shanahan-now-we-get-chance-evaluate-players)
Have to say I'm extremely disappointed in Mike saying what he did at the presser. Basically throwing in the towel on the season. That's a sure fire way to lose the players. Realistically we know he's speaking the truth, but that needs to be said once you are mathematically out of the playoffs.
Did he mean evaluate talent as in the starters and seeing which of them are going to fight and which of them arent? Or evaluate talent in a training camp - lets check out the young guys way?

He's obviously a good coach, he won two SBs. Maybe hes just not right for Washington? Who knows but what is a fact is this team hasn't gotten better in the win column since he's been hereHe WAS a good coach with a HOF QB and an innovative system in the late 90s.
Now he's blinded tto the fact that his "system" is something everyone has seen and knows how to counter. Other than that, he's got nothing but his son's gimmicks, which don't work consistently because he has success with a play and runs it and/or it's variants 10 times in a row, the D figures it out and then it's shot.
JJ or Terry made a great comment at halftime, that the 4th down RG3 run that got stuffed at the 2 everyone knew was coming. The predictability in playcalling hasn't changed in 3 1/2 years.
Defensively, losing 2 starting safeties, Orakpo & Carriker is a problem....but the only real impact has been the safeties. The CBs are healthy, albeit terrible, and MS is in charge of personnel....this is 100% his shootin' match, personnel and all.
I'm not fixated on record, I'm fixated on improvement....outside of RG3 there has been no drastic improvement in this team. Our OL is still middle of the road and weak at RT. Our D front 7 is solid, but our secondary is a wreck. This team is undisciplined.
It's time for a change at the end of the season. Give Bruce Allen the GM reigns and find a coach who's wants to coach, not be a personnel guy. No retreads either (Cowher/Gruden), get a well respected coordinator or college coach who can make the transition.

My guess is he's going to be evaluating the starters to see which ones are going to stay and which ones are going to go. Williams and Hall a definitely goners. At this point, you have to move on without Fletcher as well unless something drastically changes. ALL of our draft picks next year better be defense.(with RT being the exception)

Totally agree with everything. I guess im questioning him throwing in the towel. Giving him the benefit of the doubt that what he meant was - " now that our season is in serious jeopardy it is going to give us a chance to evaluate which of these guys fights and which doesnt. "
Did I just defend Shanahan? I better get some sleep. Between the hurricane and watching that game today I think I am mentally and physically exhausted.

Btw. This has been the easiest first half schedule the skins have seen in many years. Whata waste.
