CultBrennan59 11-04-2012, 06:42 PM And here is the new reason. Fire him now, and nothing will happen for another 5 years. Ya, tell that shit to Chuck Pagano walkin. He took a 1-15 team, and they are now 5-3 on a 3 game streak. The team they beat today, the dolphins, have a better record than us in a much tougher division. They are 4-4.
Colts are a great organization. They know what to do, who to get, who to draft, who needs to go. I've been saying for years that this franchise is cursed because when something looks great or right or perfect, we manage to find away to lose that or get rid of it or it gets hurt (or killed; RIP ST).
A person from the future could go and tell us "Here are 4 people; 3 of them are going to take a team to the super bowl, and one of them isn't; pick one." And we would manage to get that one coach that doesn't.
I still say, let shanahan play out his contract. We have 2 more years of him. Thats 2 more years of improving he can do. Now of course its hard for him to improve a team with no first rounder for the next 2 years, but that 'great' coach you all are looking for, is going to go through the same circumstances.
This team just got beat last week by a playoff caliber, always great franchise, in the Steelers and we lost a tough, mostly boring, game today to the panthers, a similar team to us.
Now at the end of the year Haslett must leave, and I believe that will solve a major problem on our defense, because Haslett can't scheme or adjust.
We need to draft depth and defense this year.
And we need to go after similar positions in FA.
Its a slump guys we've lost some games and now everyone wants to point the finger at the HC when their are bigger more obvious issues on this team.

This is a really good point. For the "fire" crowd you want to bring in a new coach with a new system with no first round picks the next two seasons to build with. That's brilliant.
This thread is pointless because Shanahan isn't going anywhere until his contract is out, unless it is of his choosing. Drafting RGIII locked in 2013, nobody is getting fired offensively and risking screwing up the best thing this franchise has had since Sammy Baugh. There will be significant changes on the staff but those wanting a new head coach will be sorely disappointed.
Not saying Garret is better, but thought Jerrah loves Garret and would bring Payton in as an OC? Or am I totally wrong about the current state of Jerry-land? I try not to look there much.
Don't know...problem is Jerry "Straw Bosses" the team and makes way to many Coach like moves and demands...
I would be surprised if that would interest a guy who has had the success that SP has had....

I would be surprised if that would interest a guy who has had the success that SP has had....Yeah. I think that kind of thing would drive people away there or here. Sean Payton suspended this year regardless, and it's not clear whether he's under contract in NO in 2013, right?
CultBrennan59 11-04-2012, 07:15 PM ^ I'm glad you see what I'm saying, now if only I can get more people here to understand that.
Washington Redskins: How Daniel Snyder found his man in Mike Shanahan - The Washington Post (http://www.washingtonpost.com/sports/redskins/washington-redskins-how-daniel-snyder-found-his-man-in-mike-shanahan/2011/09/07/gIQA1D0oIK_story.html)
This article will help. This shows you how far and to what great lengths Dan Snyder went to get Mike Shanahan a coach he really wanted. I can only think of Gibbs as the other guy that Snyder had to have. And if you all remember, we had down years with Gibbs, especially after our 'good' year. And if you remember Gibbs left on his own terms with a contract that had a year left and a team that just went to the playoffs. Snyder knows that he has a super bowl winning coach in Shanahan. Sure shanahan hasn't gotten us to the playoffs but he hasn't had a QB or defense or both here. Gibbs always had a defense. Gibbs was here 4 years. Shanahan 3. Gibbs appeared in the playoffs 2 times. His defense was top 12 both times. Shanahan hasn't had that. Shanahan also had a worthless McNabb, Rex Grossman, and John Beck as his QB when he did have a good defense. Now he has a great QB and no defense.
Its simple; Give him his 2 years he has left on his contract, and let him play it out. If he doesn't get us to the playoffs in those 2 years, he's a failed HC experiment for us. If not don't resign him and get a new guy
Chico23231 11-04-2012, 07:17 PM The NFL voided Sean Payton's contract extension making him a free agent after this season. I wouldn't mind seeing him replace Shanny.
id help pack Shanny's bag to get Sean Payton
punch it in 11-04-2012, 07:42 PM The funny thing is I don't feel like those of us who see the Shanahan era for what it really is are ahead of the curve so to speak. The results are so obvious, the poor coaching so flagrant, I think this is a rare phenomenon where you have people becoming fans of a person over a team. Sort of like a cult of personality in political/historical terms.
But there's plenty of mystery to go around. Mike shows nothing on or off the field to engender, let alone deserve, a cult of personality. What I'm really starting to wonder is if the cult mentality exists outside TWP, or if most fans elsewhere are seeing things clearly already?
It's tough for me to gauge cuz there just aren't a lot of Skins fans out west.
Had these same thoughts today and was asking skins fans at the bar what they thought. Most seemed to not care they just wanted wins - but your rite people on this site are putting Shanny ahead of the team. Or they dont want to admit he is failing because than we have to start over. But the
Quickest way to the rite track is to get off the wrong one as soon as you realize your on it. Some of us know already. Others are realizing by the week.

Sean Payton would never come here. Parcels disciple, Jerry Jones allie. Don't waste the bandwidth with the discussion.

You guys can see it whatever way you want, but you're wrong.
I really have no vested interest in Shanahan as a coach or person. I just don't think blowing it all up and starting over with god knows who is necessarily the better way. There's no guarantees either way.
SmootSmack 11-04-2012, 08:02 PM This is why I say Shanahan should not have been hired in the first place. He's not the right coach for this organization/fan base.
