I never said it was all on the players and not on Gibbs, and I don't think anybody said that. I think most agreed both were to blame. Playcalling and execution were both an issue.

I love Gibbs and it's hard for me not to pull punches on him, but I think he did a pretty poor job last year. Not switching QBs earlier killed the entire season. I don't care what you all think of Ramsey. The O started to click at the end of the season and that happened after Brunell got the hell out. I'm in the same boat, being one of the "young guys", but I still think no matter who the coach is, that I'll give it another year before I start to heavily critisize. Alot of times you have to establish a stytem and everything, and its hard to win your first year. I'll see where we are after the next season. jdlea 02-27-2005, 02:26 PM Yeah, I pretty much agree and I think Joe will turn it around. The only problem with criticizing him after next season is that we're going to high turnover in the offseason again. If we could have kept the team together I think they could have threatened the Eagles for the East crown, now I'm not so sure. You lose Coles, Gardner, possibly Smoot, Pierce and maybe even Samuels (who I actually like) that's no good for any team. I think they'll struggle again next year and every year they don't look up the term continuity. MTK 02-27-2005, 02:42 PM Everybody has turnover and I don't think we should use that as an excuse for next season. No matter who we lose, I'm sure we'll find enough talent to be able to fill the holes well enough. If we struggle again it will likely be due to not enough effective changes to the offensive schemes and playcalling. Wow I can't believe I'm saying this, I must be turning to the darkside! Imagine a Gibbs supporter saying something critical! I don't think this has ever been done before! LOL ;) jdlea 02-27-2005, 02:46 PM lol. I know everyone has turnover, but not like the Skins. Except maybe the Titans this year. skinsguy 02-27-2005, 03:58 PM I also don't believe any of us older guys here were handing out free passes to Joe Gibbs...but maybe just displaying patience. Remember, we've waited just as long for a winning franchise here in D.C. as the youngins. Maybe some who didn't have the pleasure of watching the Redskins play under Gibbs the first time may accuse us of being nostalgic, but that's fine if you want to accuse us of such. I'm sure when Gibbs leds us back to being a great team again you'll be singing his praise along with the rest of us. monk81 02-27-2005, 05:39 PM I also don't believe any of us older guys here were handing out free passes to Joe Gibbs...but maybe just displaying patience. Well said, I think we older Skin fans are just giving Gibbs the benefit of the doubt, Gibbs was successful in football, goes into a new sport in NASCAR and is also successful. He's smart, and surrounds himself with good assistants (ie just look at the Williams hiring...Joe recruited the guy himself), Some people want INSTANT success.....it just takes time and like you said........patience..........especially when we have glaring holes in the offense........OT (Jansen injury), and we need an upgrade at center, guard, and now WR......maybe 2 WR....and the defense still needs a DE and re-sign Smoot, Pierce, Salavea... |
