grimes is getting a bit old. if we lose davis, we'll want to sign cook or keller. paulsen isn't bad, but he's not a #1 TE.
Grimes will be 30 to start the season, but he's only played 5 years in the league, so treat him as a 27-28 year old. I'm not too concerned with the age of him because his body's still fresh (other than his torn Achilles he suffered back in week 1 which he should be good to go by training camp). I'm pretty sure the packers signed woodson when he was 30, and that worked out just fine.
Yes, to your second point of if we don't re-sign fred. Cook and Keller are great second options and are great receiving TEs. Draft wise their are lots of TEs to be had from the late first to the 7th round.

Smoot already gave you guys a good tip, McKelvin, who will be alot more reasonable.
Byrd is not going to happen unless the skins want to make him the highest paid safety in NFL history.... I believe the bills can still tag him if they get nervous. He is one of the top 2 or 3 FA period, we don't have the cap space for someone like him.

I know that Brent Grimes doesn't fit their current age range for targeted free agents. I just feel that whom ever we do bring in needs to be a strong cover guy to balance out Wilson/ Hall propensity to gamble.
I think we have a great chance of obtaining Byrd if he doesn't get tagged. The fact that we are now a playoff caliber team will be a factor. I also think the RG3 effect will be a factor for free agents now wanting to come to DC.

Also if Rolando McClain is released I would want to pick him up. He would do well in our system and eventualy replace LF. Raiders often misuse talented players.

We don't have cap numbers yet, but another team will make an offer that will make him impossible for us to sign.

Call me crazy but I'd bring LaRon back now that he's apparently healthy. He missed the team bus in Week 17 and had his snaps limited by the tattooed whale, so he's probably open to leaving New Jersey.
LaRon Landry - New York Jets - 2013 Player Profile - Rotoworld.com (http://www.rotoworld.com/player/nfl/4178/laron-landry)
Impending free agent SS LaRon Landry was limited to 35-of-58 snaps in the Jets' finale as punishment for missing the team bus.
It's notable because Landry had missed only 25 snaps all season coming into Week 17, and is a rare instance of a Jets player being held to account for his actions. Of course, it's not as meaningful for a player who will likely walk in free agency. Now 28, Landry expects to command lucrative, multi-year deals on the open market. Jan 9 - 3:27 PM
