If we went for it and didn't get it you would still be complaining. He was playing the field position there.
When you're a 5 and 11 team wth a secondary as bad as ours you go for that. 99% of head coaches are gutless play it by the book wimps. We have rgiii let him make a play. The d still would have had a chance to hold them. Ps RG3 is awesome. So glad we made that trade.

The only logical choice to me seems to play RGIII at CB and let him cover the other team's best receiver. He seems to be the only playmaker we have.
Hey, if Sammy Baugh could do it...
BUt it works in Madden.
lol punting in Madden is a sin

Secondary is terrible. Defensive coaching is bad. Offense is good with the exception of our offensive line, which is absolutely atrocious. Their defensive ends were consistently able to generate pressure against our tackles. Fortunately we were able to mitigate that threat a bit by getting RG3 out of the pocket, but if grossman had been back there we would have been lucky to score 20 points.
I told my buddy before the game that we'd have to double AJ green the whole game to have any chance. What does Haslett do? Play single man coverage with Hall against Green and stand off him 10 yards. Sure I understand you don't want to get beat deep, but THAT'S WHY YOU DOUBLE HIM! And people are surprised when he gets ~200 yards... WHO ELSE ON THE BENGALS IS A THREAT!?
That'd be Gresham who was abusing Fletch all game long (and no one is saying anything) or Hawkins who burned Crawford (which no one is talking about either).

Real question is, what does it take for the secondary to get better during the season? Or are they going to even get better? Cuz I see this secondary getting worked for the next 13 games.
They are going to get worked and the secondary will be priority #1 in the offseason. Everyone in the secondary that is up for contract renewal should be let loose or brought back at a lower pay rate. At least 3 of our draftees should be def backfield guys from the SEC. I am assuming 6-10 to 8-8 will garner a top 9-14 pick, so we should get a gamer for sure.

Its just revolting for the defense to give up 3 huge pass plays for TDs. Its just unacceptable period. Flat out disgusting.

If you get stuffed its a huge swing. No need to chance it in that spot.
If we had any sort of a defense i would agree. More importantly though even with a nice punt your talking 25 maybe 30 yards difference. As it turned out it was 13 yards. Bottom line is that our punt team and defense have been horrid. Our offense has been somewhat spectacular. So im goin with the hot hand - our offense.

Fletcher has always been not so great in pass coverage. (Not making excuses). He's just a run stopper. Jimmy Graham abused Fletch in game 1 as well. Unfortunately if its a physical TE vs. Fletch, he's going to get beat sometimes.

I blame this 100 percent on shanny punting the ball away on 4th and inches. The stadium was rocking and we had all the momentum. Im listening to shanny rite now on the radio and they asked why he didnt go for it? His answer - he gave our punt team and our defense props? This guy has officially lost his mind.
I agree with this statement,I dont agree with that call losing us the game,but I do think he should have went for it.Between that call and the descision last week to kick a 63 yard fg{which somehow he's remained unscathed with that shitty call,except from football outsiders.com}
Ive never thought he makes the right calls at critical times.Oh yeah,he pulled that timeout bullshit last week again on a fg attempt which backfired again
Only good descision he's ever made is drafting RG3.I wish him and Haslett would hit the road

As far as our defense goes, I'm not sure what we'd rather have. Haslett's defense has been down, up, and now down so far in the 3 seasons he's been our d-coordinator. Gregg Williams/Blache's defense were consistently good for the most part, but we never forced turnovers. Now that we've had both, what do people prefer?
Is it better to have a shitty defense capable of forcing turnovers, or a solid/good defense that doesn't force any turnovers? I'm leaning toward the latter right now. Look at what the Rams did today against a good Bears defense, versus what they did against us last week. If we a solid defense that didn't force a lot of turnovers, I think games would be closer than they have this season. Obviously against the Saints that worked in our favor, but these last two games our defense has been manhandled all game.
