Tedy Bruschi Suffers StrokeSmootSmack 02-18-2005, 01:35 PM Could this end his career? http://abcnews.go.com/Sports/ESPNSports/story?id=512206 BrudLee 02-18-2005, 01:42 PM It's impossible to tell how this will affect him later in life - my prayers are with his family. It appears he is suffering no lasting effects, but this will change his life. I'm curious as to whether the Patriots (or any team) will allow him to continue playing regardless of his recovery, considering the liability risks and the financial risks involved in keeping someone who is a retirement risk under contract. RedskinRat 02-18-2005, 01:49 PM I had an aneurysm last April, didn't go the ER for almost 2 weeks and I'm not suffering any side effects (although my friends and co-workers will tell you otherwise) so I'm sure an NFL player who's in top physical shape has a better chance than most of getting back. The liability issue is the worst part. I don't want anyone to die playing this game. Gmanc711 02-18-2005, 01:53 PM Very Sad. He is a great player, I hope he can recover from this completley. MTK 02-18-2005, 02:21 PM What a scary situation. If there's any risk he should hang it up. He's played 9 years, has 3 rings, is probably pretty comfortable financially and above all he has a family. SKINSnCANES 02-18-2005, 02:37 PM definitly a class act. best wishes to him. There is no shame in hanging up the hat to be with his family with all he has already accomplished diehardskin2982 02-18-2005, 03:00 PM I know thats scary as hell and I can imagine that he will take a long hard look before going on with next season. redrock-skins 02-18-2005, 07:30 PM My best wishes to him. I did know a couple of his family members (when I was in Vegas) and he is a great guy and I do hope they are all ok. Glad to see he is getting out of the hospital. You can't help but root for a guy like that. monk81 02-18-2005, 08:00 PM In this day and age of the Freddie Mitchell's and Terrell Owens..........Bruschi is a refreshing change of pace.........he seems like a good guy! My prayers are with him for a complete recovery. sportscurmudgeon 02-18-2005, 08:43 PM Obviously, I hope that he is OK and makes a full recovery and lives out a long and full life. I really hope that IF the doctors advise him to quit that he listens to them and quits. Many athletes - and football players in particular - have grown up in a set of circumstances where "heroism" and "manhood" are often measured by "playing through the pain". In this case, playing when advised medically not to do that could lead to something really bad. Now, if the docs say he is "good to go" and can't do any added damage to himself by playing, then I say he shoudl play if he still wants to do that. But if the docs say that he should hang them up, I sincerely hope he will do just that! |
