Before offensive tackle Jon Jansen restructured his contract this week to provide the Redskins salary cap relief, defensive end Renaldo Wynn took the same steps -- and the combined savings of the two puts the team about $2 million under the cap. Wynn saved the Redskins $1.9 million. . . .

This is why Jon Jansen is so freaking great. Seriously, no one around here even talked about him restructuring, and who is the guy to step up and do it, Jon Jansen! Clutch for sure. Very happy too see Wynn has done the same, he is a solid guy, but wasent up to what we were paying him. Very good news from Redskins Park.
wait wait wait
the redskins saved 2 million. wynn accounted for 1.9 million of the amount saved.
jansen restructured for .1 million. couldnt jansen help out a little more?

If I understood it right, after the two restructured the team is now $2 million under the cap but that doesn't mean they were right on the cap before hand
So it's possible that Jansen gave up more than Wynn, but I don't know for sure

Every little bit is going to help and it shows me these guys want to do their part to help this team become a winner again.

According to the NFLPA, here's how Wynn's base salary figures were adjusted:
Original contract:
2005: 3,500,000
2006: 4,000,000
2007: 4,000,000
Restructured contract:
2005: 665,000
2006: 1,000,000
2007: 2,000,000
That's a pretty significant restructuring. I'm not sure how the bonuses are distributed, but Canuck can probably figure that out for us.
I wasn't able to find any new information on Jansen's restructuring. I'm sure his 2005 savings were significant, but you have to keep in mind that his original salary figure for 2005 was 1.5 million less than Wynn's to begin with. I'm hoping that they structured Jansen's deal to save more money in 2006, where Jansen's hit is set to be $5.238 Million. It looks like Wynn's deal is going to be 2006-friendly, which is supposed to be the nasty cap year for the Skins.

Jansen is a "real redskin" and reminds me of Jacoby, Grimm, etc. He will do whatever it takes to help the team. I just hope that his counterpart on the other side of the line gets his greedy ass in line and does the same.
