The 53: OL starters look set, battles for reserve spots (http://www.csnwashington.com/football-washington-redskins/redskins-talk/The-53-OL-starters-look-set-battles-for-?blockID=734108)

There are 16 offensive linemen on the roster, the Redskins will keep nine.

In: Trent Williams, Kory Lichtensteiger, Will Montgomery, Chris Chester, Jammal Brown, Willie Smith, Tyler Polumbus, Josh LeRibeus, Tom Compton
Out: Erik Cook, Grant Garner, Adam Gettis, Maurice Hurt, Nevin McCaskill, James Lee, Nick Martinez

Changes from 2011: OT Sean Locklear left as free agent (signed with NY Giants); Lee signed as a free agent, LeRibeus, Compton, Gettis selected in draft.

Breakdown

Decent article but I don't understand why he would have Maurice Hurt as "OUT"?

Hurt came in and played well for rookie OG.
At the very least he's proven that he's quality depth that can come in and play a few games and not 'vomit on themselves' to steal a line from Doc Walker.

Chris Russell kinda rips hurt here too: @5:30 minute mark ESPN 980 Audio Vault - Play Now (http://www.stationcaster.com/player_skinned.php?s=65&c=428&f=607741)

Yeah, Hurt being "out" is a surprise to me as well. We DEF need as much experienced depth as we can get at OL.

Wasnt conditioning an issue with Hurt? Thought he played decent. Someone needs to move Tyler Columbus to the out list, hopefully its Gettis or Hurt.

Yeah the knock on Hurt coming out of college was that he was too flabby. Perhaps he hasn't worked hard enough this offseason, who knows. It's still really early though, the competition in camp should be something to watch.

I don't know that camp will alter our starting lineup. But hopefully the camp competition will result in our having better depth on the OL than we've had in some time.

hurt is depth... quality depth? debatable. but i'd probably keep him and squad compton.

Without getting into the advanced stats from sites like like pro football focus (which actually show that Hurt (a rookie) played about the same level as a Chris Chester (who is more expensive and totally overrated but everyone seems to love) for me I took notice that when Hurt settled ino the line-up the running game improved.

If Hurt isn't a potential starter he's at the very least quality depth.
