ethat001 07-09-2012, 03:29 AM Compton's kind of a workout wonder, squats 700 lbs. Reminds me of P.Daniels & his weight lifting competitions. Also a college team captain a couple of years, so ?should be good for locker room. Would like to see him develop, starting at RT may be a stretch this year from a 6th round draft pick, but would be great if he developed that quickly.
30gut 07-09-2012, 12:32 PM Most rookie OL struggle. (do the people bashing Hurt remember our beloved Trent Williams rookie year? and he was the #4 pick)
Playing on the OL is learned over time the few that are good right out the`gate are usually early picks.
This late round draft pick comes in and plays in a pinch due to injury and the running game improves.
I think its flat out wrong to speculate Hurt as being on the outside looking in terms of making the team.
It's just Tandler's opinion. And if Shanahan was so sold on Hurt, why go out and draft 2 interior OL? I think Hurt is going to have his work cut out for him in camp.
30gut 07-09-2012, 12:46 PM Here's my speculation on what they'll do on the OL:
Trent Williams, Kory Lichtensteiger, Will Montgomery, Chris Chester, Jaamal Brown
Maurice Hurt LG
Josh LeRibeus RG
Willie Smith OT
Tyler Polumbus OT/OG,
Tom Compton OT, Adam Gettis OG practice squad/inactive
Here's what I would do:
Trent Williams, Kory L, Chris Chester, LeRib/Hurt, Jamaal Brown
Willie Smith, Maurice Hurt, Tyler P, Tom Compton
Gettis-Practice Squad
I'll hold off on speculating until we get well into camp.

I'm in no position to know.
But judging on actual performance and situation it isn't logical for a late round rookie that comes in and plays well in a pinch to be so far on the bubble to be considered out.
Why go out and draft 2 interior OL?
Simple answer, OL play is important and good teams continually address the position via the draft.
But specifically to our team: we lost an interior lineman due to a major injury and scrambled between to find a suitable replacement (tried Will Mont at OG but this caused the OG and the Center position to struggle); and we also start an aging marginal RG (Chester) and a Center that can only play center; regardless of Hurt's play we needed interior OL

So you would cut Monty?
REDSKINS4ever 07-09-2012, 02:46 PM With all due respect, I thought Hurt was absolutely atrocious last year. I would hope that Gettis and LeRibeus bring a higher ceiling anyways, so it's not that bad of a trade off.
Hurt is not too bad. He was just a rookie last year. But I am excited about LeRibeus and Gettis. A lot has been mentioned about Will Montgomery being a below average talent center, but he seems to be a little better than below average.
Chico23231 07-09-2012, 02:53 PM I gotta feeling could be a surprise starter on the OL by the end of preseason.
30gut 07-09-2012, 03:05 PM So you would cut Monty?Yeah, only because he lacks versatility which is very important for an OL in my eyes.
I see him as an average center but he can only play center.
He's not passable at OG even for a short stint and most of our other interior OL can play center: Chester, Lichtensteiger, LeRib, Gettis
