After signing Ralph Brown and Walt Harris -- which were wise moves, in my opinion -- the Skins should be about done retooling the secondary, right?
Adding Brown and Harris who are both coming off surgeries doesn't exactly wrap me up in a warm, fuzzy security blanket. But somebody from a group of DBs this deep should be able to step up in case of injuries. Here's the lineup as it looks now:
Cornerbacks:
Fred Smoot
Shawn Springs
Rashad Bauman
Walt Harris
Ralph Brown
Safeties:
Matt Bowen
Iffy Ohalete
Andre Lott
Sean Taylor (???)
Barring injuries and outright failures in training camp, these 9 defensive backs should comprise the secondary for 2004. I would have to think that Ade Jimoh, Todd Franz, and David Terrell just found themselves expendable after these signings, don't you? The draft choice is still a question mark, I know. And if for some reason we don't wind up drafting Sean Taylor, Franz and Terrell might get another chance.
But I'm not even certain about Andre Lott. He's so far been unable to crack the starting lineup, and his name is rarely mentioned even in special teams play.
If nothing else, Williams wanted a deep, solid corps of defensive backs and hopefully he's got them.
