TE is about the only position (beside QB) where I think that there is no competition. An undrafted camp body would have to look like Todd Christenson and probably still not make the team. I guess the only question is who the official starter would be. Cooley, Paul, Paulson and Davis will all get plenty of action and I think Paul might lead the team in ST tackles.
If anything, I'd like to see Davis traded if a spot is needed. He'd bring more interest from other teams and I'd be surprised if he doesn't get another strike for weed within 2 years.

The team won't break that up, and they have Paulson, and now Niles Paul in case someone goes down. Cooley and Davis were more pass catching TE's and Paulson and Paul are probably going to be more blocking TE's.

paul is smaller than cooley. i high doubt he'll be an effective blocker. he's more of a pass-catching TE too. Paulsons a lock as he's our only blocking TE. i think Paul only makes the roster if we roll with 4 TEs or cut Cooley

Davis is exactly the kind of player you don't want to trade. He's young, homegrown, and about to breakout in a big way with RGIII now at QB.

I share your concern about his being one strike away from being suspended for a full year. But what is Shanahan to do about him? The Skins must have talent to win and players like him don't grow on trees. As nervous as I am about a possible relapse by Davis, I think that keeping him is a risk that's worth taking.

Also, if Cooley can stay healthy (obviously, I don't believe that Chris is done in D.C.), we have some insurance for a year or two if Davis should be suspended again.

He already is an effective blocker as a WR, that's how he earned playing time. Now, it will be different for him when he's up against 250 lb. LBs & 280 lb. DEs, but I would guess that the move to TE is due to his blocking abiliity. His potential to be a good recieving TE seems more a long-term luxury to me.

Releasing him is the right move. Good teams know when to move on...

Not so sure a converted WR is gonna be used primarily as a blocker...

But I agree that they won't break up the Cooley/Davis duo. Fred is a bong hit away from a 1 year suspension.

At the end of the day I think he restructures his contract and sticks around.

I love Cooley. Great Redskin. Keep him on.

That being said, and I know he played a bit of FB last year, but did anyone notice in the above compilation how many damn screen passes he caught? At least 50-60% of those highlights are screen passes. GEEZ....... Lets hope with RG3, the bootlegs, and some actual weapons at WR, we can actually threaten teams down the field this year. If we do, you'll see the average yardage on those screens JUMP up.....

We're simply not a good enough football team to let go of good football players. Find a way to keep Cooley.

If Cooley can play at the level that he played in in 2008, and Fred Davis plays at the level he did last year, the Redskin offense with RG3 and its receivers will be unstoppable. Although Mike Shanahan likes running the football a lot, I can see us being a passing team mostly.

Lets bring Art Monk back and have him play at a 1984 level for us to:) The 2008 Cooley is long gone and this old man is all that's left...
