Hey guys, I'm working on coming up with an Art Monk tribute page and I wanted to get everyone involved. On this page along with a bio of Monk and some pics, I also want to have some fan quotes from us, so in this thread post your own personal tribute to Monk, you can say anything, why he should be in the Hall, what he meant to you as a fan, etc.
I'll choose a handful of the best ones and post them on the tribute page when it's done. The page will also have a link to our online petition. Post away!

C'mon guys, I thought this thread would go crazy with people's thoughts on Monk, don't make me do all the work, LOL
SmootSmack 02-14-2005, 04:25 PM "During Art Monk's 14-year career with the Washington Redskins, the Redskins went to 5 NFC Championship games (winning 4) and won 3 Super Bowl titles. The Redskins were a team of talented players, to be sure. But more than that, they were a team of hard working, humble, community-oriented people of strong character. No player on the team, perhaps the entire league, better personified this mix of talent, work ethic, and humility than Art Monk. Look beyond Monk's 940 career receptions, 5th in history when he retired, or his record-breaking 106 catch season in 1984. Consider that Monk sacrificied bigger numbers and more personal glory to help open lanes for the running game, or allow other receivers such as Gary Clark and Ricky Sander to face man coverage deep. A record-breaking, team-first player who remains today a pillar in the community-that is a Hall of Famer, that is Art Monk."
cpayne5 02-14-2005, 04:27 PM Art Monk didn't dominate, but he was an integral part of 4 super bowl teams, set numerous league receiving records and was a class act on and off the field - exemplifying what an NFL player should be. It is a crime he is not in the HOF.
wolfeskins 02-14-2005, 08:10 PM for anyone reading this that does not remember or was not old enough to see art monk play professional football , i'll say this, art exemplified the word professional. he practiced hard, he played hard and he was a true team player. he never got down on himself or his teammates. you would never see him arguing on the sidelines with any of the coaches or any of his teammates the way you see some of todays so-called " great wideouts ". when he scored a touchdown you would not see him pull out a pen to sign a ball, nor would you see him dance like micheal jackson, what you would see is him simply giving the football to the referee and then going back to the sidelines. two players he could be compared to on the way he handled himself on and of the field are barry sanders, who you may remember and marvin harrison, who is still currently playing. art monk was a huge part of an offense that won three superbowls. he should, without a doubt, be in the nfl hall of fame.
Gmanc711 02-14-2005, 08:36 PM "Unfortunatley, I only got to see Art Monk play with the Washington Redskins for seasons. He remains, however my favorite Washington Redskin of all time. He was the one to always to the dirty work; never complain, and you would never know he was the all time reciving leader from talking to him. He seemed to be the most humble man. I will never forget Dan Deirdorf saying " Good things do Happen to Good People" on ABC as he broke the record. With all the me, me , me we see in sports today, its nice to remember a guy like Art Monk." - Jason Giaconia, Hail to the Redskins
Redskins8588 02-15-2005, 12:40 AM I know that many of todays WR's will probably exceed Monks career but at the time that Art Monk played not every Wide out was built like him. Now just about every reciever in the leauge is almost molded like him. IMO Art Monk not only was a Redskin great, he also helped the progression of the game and the Wide Reciver position.
He did what was asked of him without making a fuss. If he had to block a linebacker he did it, if he had to go across the middle he did it. Art Monk was a true team player, whatever was for the good of the team, that was always first on his mind. - Adam R. Ehrensberger
SKINSnCANES 02-16-2005, 07:54 PM "He was asked to block Reggie White, and he succeeded in doing so, enough said"
