So its ok when the wealthy cheat on taxes, but its not ok 51% dont pay? Under the same logic, if the poor cheat on taxes, your good with that too? So if its a tax free for all, your good with fraud in medicare, welfare claims, and general social services, because thats just money politicians are hoarding and spending for their own gain? Its stealing from services that support our country!

If the story is true about the Bermurda money not claim, then thats flat out tax evasion. The Caymen island accounts is just so typical of a money whore rich american.

From the Yahoo! link above i dont see any reference to fraud or tax evasion or doing something illegal? Is what Mitt did just publicly distasteful, or could this be truely construed as tax evasion?

i would equate a cayman island account to an earned income refund when you paid no taxes to begin with. Both can be done legally. Both give fuel to the other side of the debate's arguments and frustration with our system.

The wealthy aren't "cheating" on their taxes, they're simply working within the rules set forth by gov't. That being said, those who don't pay any taxes committing fraud in fed programs are straight out stealing. They're taking something they haven't paid anything for.

The top 1% pay approximately % 40 or so of federal income taxes. This begs a larger question, why should the wealthy have to pay a higher % in tax than someone who's poor. Does a wealthy person use more of the federal highway system? Does the military protect the wealthy person more than the poor person from foreign aggression? Does the Medicare/SS serve the wealthy more than the poor person?

Let's not forget all the wealthy aren't just the "evil, rich, country club republicans". Many of the rich are Dems....but as long as they can influence members of Congress to protect their interests it makes sense to send a few thousand to Dems/libs. There are many areas where you will never have a R/con congressperson.

FairTax will be revenue neutral, closes the tax loopholes used by the very rich and is a point-of-sale tax. Same rate for everyone, rich buy more they're taxed more.

The Caymen island accounts is just so typical of a money whore rich american.Let's say you're a successful businessman, you worked your hind-quarters off in school, took the risk of funding your own college, worked 50+ hour weeks for 20+ years and now are doing well. Not mega-rich, but say $ 1M yr. or so income. You're already paying a much higher tax rate than most everyone else and you're subject to the estate tax when you pass away, why would you not do everything you could to protect your hard earned assests for yourself and your family (think future generations)? Why would you pay more to the gov't who will simply take your money and do whatever it wants with it? It could be used to fund Planned Parenthood, it could be used for a new weapon system, it could go to a social program, it doesn't matter where the $$$ goes it's not going to help you and your family.

That's a very shitty unbalanced equation. One is paying someone to shield their money from uncle sam and the other works hard but has no money to pay uncle sam let alone someone to hide money for them.

You guys make it seem like anyone could qualify for earned income credit, forget who created it and why it's a bloody good idea (hint, Ford created, Reagan strengthened it and it is meant to provide people and families relief and help them escape poverty).
