Griff making another smart move...trademarking his name and the variations of it.

Report: RGIII trademarks name, 'Unbelievably Believable' (http://content.usatoday.com/communities/thehuddle/post/2012/05/report-redskins-robert-griffin-iii-trademarking-name-phrase-unbelievably-believable/1)

Smart man!

Didn't Lavar try something similar, and nearly got in a fight with the NFLPA because they have some sort of rights agreement. I probably am the only one, but I think this is a misstep. One of those legal savvy PR bad moves that may end up hurting him (think Bentley only bigger)

Arrington didn't want his name used for jersey sales unless he got a bigger cut. I think this situation is different.

Just check out eBay and all of the fake/generic "RG3" shirts. This is a move he needed to make.

Lavar's situation is completely different, he had no nickname/moniker to protect.

Ahhh good memory sir. I think Griffin is confident, but not arrogant like Arrington.

I can see how they would grant a trademark for RG3 & RGIII, but he certainly can't be the only person in history named Robert Griffin III?

Does that mean if my name is Robert Griffin, my son and grandson can't have that name?

Pretty sure it's just for RGIII, RG3, etc. as it pertains to his likeness.

No, that means you, your son, and your grandson can't attempt to profit off merchandise bearing RG3 or any trademarked variation of that monikor.

The article does say he is also trademarking "Robert Griffin III"

RGIII trademarks name, 'Unbelievably Believable' (http://content.usatoday.com/communities/thehuddle/post/2012/05/report-redskins-robert-griffin-iii-trademarking-name-phrase-unbelievably-believable/1?AID=4992781&PID=4003003&SID=x5450l8sd76c)

Griffin filed applications for trademarking RGIII, RG3, Robert Griffin III and the phrase "Unbelievably Believable."
