Notes:
Played on both sides of the ball as a Florida prep. Redshirted in 2007. Saw action in 11 games as a backup running back and special-teams player in ’08, rushing seven times for 23 yards (3.2-yard average) and no touchdowns and making 10 tackles on special teams. Won the Sun Belt Conference rushing title in ’09 after gaining 263-1,392-11 (5.3) in 12 starts. Also caught seven passes for 114 passes (16.3-yard average) and two touchdowns. Played with a sprained left ankle. Posted 227-928-7 (4.1) rushing and 8-47-1 (5.9) receiving in 12 starts in ’10. Missed most of ’11 spring practice with a strained lower back. On the season, started all 12 games and toted 236-1,186-9 (5.0) with 15-139-1 (9.3) receiving. Finished his career as FAU’s leader in rushing yards (3,529), carries (733), rushing TDs (27), rushing yards per game (75.1) and all-purpose yards (3,843). Also the first running back in Howard Schnellenberger’s 27 years as a head coach to produce two 1,000-yard seasons. Fumbled 16 times in 762 career touches and gained 4.8 yards per carry.

Positives:
Well-built with a strong lower body (squats 600 pounds). Very good balance and vision. Runs with good forward lean. Large hands. Effective inside runner. Lowers his shoulder and churns through contact. Willing, physical blocker. Praised for his special-teams ability as a young player. Is tough and will play through pain. Very good blocker. Exceptional personal and football character. Accountable, vocal leader. Solid showing at the East-West Shrine Game.

Negatives:
Has an odd build — short but high-cut. Needs to continue bulking up. Bench-pressed 225 pounds only 16 times at the Combine. Below-average speed for a running back. Tight-hipped and straight-linish. Limited foot quickness and elusiveness. Ball security has been an issue (fumbled at least five times each of the past three seasons). Minimal receiving production. Did not face top competition in the Sun Belt Conference.

Summary:
Highly competitive, smart, motivated, productive, college running back lacking the speed and agility to remain there in the pros. Physical, inside, north-south running style, willingness as a blocker and strong intangibles make him ripe for a conversion to fullback. Has played both positions and could get looks for a team that employs one-back power sets.

He's probably a fullback going forward. Not bad

Sounds good. Our backfield was lacking a classic power runner especially with Torain basically falling off a cliff. Plus with the Eagles and their "amazing" wide 9 defense, always good to know you might have someone that can run over their finesse guys.

I know a lot of people wanted Lamar Miller but from my understanding Miller is a speed back and with Helu on the roster getting him might have been a bit redundant provided the front office didn't believe that he (Miller) would be the type of guy getting 1,500+ yards a year.

I made the comparison before to the 2008 Giants:
Ward = Helu Jr
Bradshaw = Royster
Morris = Jacobs

Nice combination of speed, power, and all around ability.

Especially with RG3 on the team the Skins should be top 5 in rushing, especially now that they have depth along the offensive line.

That is a good point. One of the best things to do to the wide 9 is gash it up the middle.

#Redskins' Shanahan: Linebacker Keenan Robinson will play inside. Alfred Morris will be a running back, not fullback.
