I think the chance of RG3 struggling to the point where fans will be asking for Cousins is extremely slim. So thankfully we shouldn't have to worry about such a scenario.
One can hope.

He was the original backup plan if we could not trade up to get RGIII and it was not expected for him to fall to the 4th round. BA says to Shanny.." Cousins is still on the board do you want to grab him!?" Shanny- " yes! I want to wipe the cupboard clear and start with fresh new minds, 2 intelligent QBs learning the system at the same time and it will just fuel RGIII to go 110%!" BA - " he can either be nice insurance in case RGIII goes down and he could very well turn into trade bait....let's get him!" Shanny- " cue the QB controversy card!" DS- " yeah, meanwhile we have a parade going for RGIII and 20,000 waiting for him at FedEx field.....please..... our 2 1st rounders say otherwise." BA- " 100 bucks say if the Pats made this move ESPN would be kissing their butt!" SBXVII 05-02-2012, 10:30 AM I'm supprised at the media's negativity on the Skins picking up Cousins also. I look at it this way: 1- We have our franchise QB in RG3. Everyone wanted him. We got him. 2- There were some concerned about his size and the fact that his running might get him injured similar to Vick. Lets look at it this way, "IF" he were to get injured would you want to go back to Grossman and or Beck? I'm pretty sure we all had seen enough of both of them. So picking up another QB was going to happen. They didn't get P.Manning, and none of the other candidates were worth taking so drafting another QB was most likely going to happen. Would you want a decent back up or would you want the team to have taken a 7th round QB whome we all felt was simply camp fodder and god forbid he has to take over? 3- There were a lot of us to include myself who felt we should get rid of RG1 and Beck and pick up 2 QB's in the draft. Now we have two young QB's in the stable to play if need be. If one turns out not to work out we have the other, if both work out well then we have many options as in trading Cousins down the road or using the QB that fits best with what we want to do each week. We all know RG3 is the QB the coaches want to lead the team but technically he's not a "franchise" QB until he's proven himself and has been the leading QB for a few yrs. So should the team see something in an opponant that looks like Cousins might be the better fit the team can always have him play that week. Most likely Cousins won't see the field unless the team is up by a lot of points then they can sit RG3 and let Cousins get playing time for perhaps a trade down the road. MTK 05-02-2012, 10:33 AM Those ripping the Skins for wanting to have good depth at QB probably also ripped the Colts and Bears last year for not having good depth at QB. This whole thing is absurd. BA- " 100 bucks say if the Pats made this move ESPN would be kissing their butt!" Your right. I don't understand all the negativity. The media laughed at the Skins last year for having Grossman and Beck as the teams QB's. Now the team goes out and picks up one of the best out of this yrs draft and picks up another young talented QB that played in a pro style in college to be back up or as an insurance policy and the media acts confused and laughs at the Skins. WTF? Cousins was projected to go in the 2nd round. With all the talent in other positions he fell to the 4th round. That would be considered a steal for any other team.... except the Redskins. Why? Atleast we now have to talented QB's for the future and if nothing else hopefully one pans out well. Most expectedly RG3 but for what ever reason he doesn't there is Cousins. No complaints here. CRedskinsRule 05-02-2012, 10:36 AM So, in everyone's opinion, how does preseason work? Does Grossman see any snaps, or is it Griffin 2-3 quarters, Cousins the rest? Or does Grossman act as a buffer between the two? SBXVII 05-02-2012, 10:38 AM Those ripping the Skins for wanting to have good depth at QB probably also ripped the Colts and Bears last year for not having good depth at QB. This whole thing is absurd. #1 Rippers.... Chad and Lavar. I turned on the radio yesterday around 3:30 and they again were ripping the Skins for doing this, then had a guest on whom they tried to say was just as confused and had the same oppinion.... hello, they invited him on their show of course he will have the same oppinion. They made sure of that. Would it have been ok if we took Tannehill and in the 4th picked up Cousins? would the media have been more positive of that move? Our two guys will push each other. Cousins is a video hound so he will look at every aspect of what makes the other teams defense weak and hopefully that rubs off on RG3 if he doesn't already have that in him. NC_Skins 05-02-2012, 10:39 AM Anybody tell you that drafted bad... If, If, if a draft analyst say I missed on a pick, and y'all hear it, then that's that. I mean, I might have missed one pick this year but if, if somebody say he doesn't draft right in the 4th round, it could be one pick. Out of all the picks this year, that's enough... that's enough to get a whole lot started. I told Coach Shanahan that you don't have to give the people of D.C. a reason to think about trading RGIII or anything like that. If you trade for somebody, you trade them to make the team better...simple as that. I'm cool with that. I'm all about that. The people in D.C. deserve to have a winner. It's simple as that. It goes further than that ... If I can't draft a backup QB, I can't draft one. If my starter gets hurt, he's hurt. I mean ... simple as that. It aint about that... I mean its... Its not about that... At all. You know what I'm saying I mean... But its...its easy ... to, to talk about... It's easy to sum it up when you're just talking about 4th round pick. We're sitting in here, and I'm supposed to be the General Manager, and we in here talking about a 4th round pick. I mean, listen, we're talking about 4th round pick, not a 1st rounder, not a 2nd rounder, not even a 3rd rounder, we talking about a 4th round pick. Not a 1st!! Not, not ... Not the 1st rounder that I go out there and trade a ton of picks for. Not the 1st rounder, but we're talking about 4th rounders, man. I mean, how silly is that? ... SmootSmack 05-02-2012, 10:40 AM So, in everyone's opinion, how does preseason work? Does Grossman see any snaps, or is it Griffin 2-3 quarters, Cousins the rest? Or does Grossman act as a buffer between the two? Jonathan Crompton starts all 16 quarters or Grossman starts 1st game, gets in about two series Griffin starts 2nd game, gets in about a quarter and a half Griffin starts 3rd game, gets in 3 quarters Cousins starts 4th game, gets in the first half SBXVII 05-02-2012, 10:43 AM So, in everyone's opinion, how does preseason work? Does Grossman see any snaps, or is it Griffin 2-3 quarters, Cousins the rest? Or does Grossman act as a buffer between the two? Who knows what the team will do but I'd imagine RG3 will get most of the snaps. Grossman and Cousins will split the remaining. Preseason games I'd imagine the first game each get a quarter and or a quarter and a half. The second game RG3 gets maybe a half to help learn the offense the other two get a quarter. The third game the same. The last game I'd imagine RG3 gets a quarter maybe quarter and a half then then Cousins probably would finish the game. They know what they got in RG1 and he knows the system already. So I'd imagine RG3 and Cousins would get most of the playing time so they can learn and the coaches can see what they can do. |
