I don't recall when the skins got the better end of a trade deal involving picks. Last season I thought Hightower was a steal but he was on IR after 5 games and to resign him is questionable with his health. J.Campbell-we got shafted of his value.
This team always buys high and sells low.
Gaffney would be a welcomed addition to a team lacking depth like The Jags, even the Ravens need help. Skins gave a 3rd to get Gaff and talks for a 6th or 7th rounder is just
unfair.

skins wasted a 3rd on jarmon and did a good job making up for it by trading him for gaffney. anything for gaffney is a win

Well, I still don't get how Mike Shanahan wants to get Gaffney out of Washington. The guy is a veteran wide receiver who happened to be the most productive wide receiver on the roster last season. Jabar Gaffney showed up for every game. With the additions of Garcon and Morgan, and with Hankerson coming back I still see plenty of room for Gaffney as a member of the Redskins receiving corps. The problem in my estimation is Shanahan. He micro manages too damn much.

Gaffney is the definition of just-a-guy. The fact that he put up the numbers that he did last year was a testament to how pathetic our offense was, not Gaffney's prowess.

We need playmakers at WR and Gaffney is not a playmaker.

Again the injuries to Moss and Cooley forced Gaffney to be outr top WR not to mention we had no one else. Garcon, Morgan, Moss, Hankerson, Davis, Cooley. Where is the "plenty of room" for a below average WR who doesn't have separation speed?

Problem is Garcon fits the same description...almost exactly. He's had some solid seasons working w/ arguably the best QB in the history of football and then last season because he was the primary target. But through it all Garcon has been inconsistent, which is the consensus on him as best I can tell.

...so Garcon is younger than Gaffney but doesn't know the system. Maybe it's a wash, but then you have to take the cap implications into account.

Garcon has two key factors on his side over Gaffney. Speed and youth.

Pierre Garcon, WR for the Washington Redskins at NFL.com (http://www.nfl.com/player/pierregarcon/2346/profile)

Jabar Gaffney, WR for the Washington Redskins at NFL.com (http://www.nfl.com/player/jabargaffney/2505033/profile)

Links to career stats. Garcon is about as pedestrian as they come, and his fumbles are a red flag. In short, it's almost impossible to rationally justify blowing a huge portion of cap space on this "profile" of a player. I think the FO has (needlessly) backed itself into a corner here, putting all it's proverbial eggs into the Garcon basket.

I hope he is that guy for us...1000+ yards and at least 8 TDs. He needs to be that guy because the opportunity cost of his contract is significant. If he's not we need to start asking some hard questions about this FO's legitimacy.

With Niles Paul moving to TE and Leonard Hankerson still unproven, I fail to see how Gaffney is expendable.

You don't just dump a proven reliable player for a "potential playmaker" that's may or may not be on your current roster. The only answer is they're eyeing a handful of WR in the draft.

The team went with youth at other positions, I don't have a problem with doing the same with our wideouts. If you want a safety net, Santana Moss can do that. I don't see how losing Gaffney is so terrible.

Or the answer is that Gaffney isn't that good.
