FRPLG 04-23-2012, 01:54 PM With Niles Paul moving to TE and Leonard Hankerson still unproven, I fail to see how Gaffney is expendable.
You don't just dump a proven reliable player for a "potential playmaker" that's may or may not be on your current roster. The only answer is they're eyeing a handful of WR in the draft.
Gaffney probably doesn't have a spot on this team. It's as simple as that. He's as valuable now as he will probably ever be in his career. Sell.

Given that Shanahan told him not to show up for team workouts last week, that kinda says all you need to know.
REDSKINS4ever 04-23-2012, 04:48 PM Again the injuries to Moss and Cooley forced Gaffney to be outr top WR not to mention we had no one else. Garcon, Morgan, Moss, Hankerson, Davis, Cooley. Where is the "plenty of room" for a below average WR who doesn't have separation speed?
It doesn't matter how bad the offense was or how pathetic Grossman and Beck played last year. It doesn't matter why Gaffney produced. The fact of the matter is that he produced. He was a 16 game starter and the Redskins leading receiver. Sure, he's not as fast as most wide receivers around the league, and he doesn't have great hands like Leonard Hankerson or Marcus Colston, but Gaffney still stepped up last year. He should be credited for doing that. But he's being treated like an outcast now. That's wrong.

How is he being treated like an outcast? If he was told to seek a trade, then that gives him the chance to go to another team of his choosing with the same contract he has right now. If he gets cut, then his production last year should allow him to find another home (such as New England). The worst thing for Gaffney would be to keep him here buried in the depth chart.

@ Ruhskins- You don't think Gaffney can contribute to the offense? With Garcon, Hankerson, Moss, and Morgan pass receiving, Gaffney wouldn't be an option in certain situations? The only thing Anthony Armstrong has is speed, but as we've seen, he drops passes when he's hit too hard because he's soft. Gaffney is a much better WR than Armstrong. But if Mike Shanahan feels that trading Gaffney plays in the Redskins favor, then so be it.

I think he could contribute, but the problem is that team has invested money and picks in the likes of Garcon (money), Hankerson (pick), and Morgan (money). If you have made those investment, a player like Gaffney becomes a possible trade asset, without having to open up a hole in your roster. Also, a guy like Armstrong (who is not a lock to stay with the team) will most likely be asked to play special teams...something that I doubt Gaffney would do.
I just don't see how trading Gaffney or curtting him is the end of the world. Personally, I think it is better for Gaffney if he can go to a place like New England, where he can be a starter almost right away, instead of being in a WR competition here in DC.
skinsfan69 04-23-2012, 05:32 PM Players like Gafney are a dime a dozen in the NFL. Solid 3rd wr. Nothing more, nothing less.

@Ruhskins- I'm a Jabar Gaffney fan. That's why I want him to remain a Redskin. I've followed him ever since he was a gamer at Florida. I was excited when we obtained him in a trade with Denver. But if Mike Shanahan feels that the team doesn't need Gaffney now, then I hope he knows what he's doing. Garcon, Hankerson, and Morgan had better produce this year.
