Paintrain 04-15-2012, 01:34 PM There are always ways to contain a quarterback. But blitzing RG3 could prove to be a mistake. If you look at most of Baylor's games, RG3 often beat the blitz when he was pressured. Kendall Wright and the other Baylor wide receivers had one on one match ups all season long. I do expect things to be a much more difficult for Griffin in the NFL. You can't blitz every QB. The only time when Tom Brady is sacked from off of a blitz is when he couldn't go anywhere with the football. But that rarely happens with Brady. Same thing with Aaron Rodgers. It was also difficult to sack John Elway because he could move around and riffle the ball down the field in just a matter of time. It will be the same thing with RG3.
One of the great attributes that RGIII has that isn't being as frequently mentioned is his quick release so even under the pressure of the blitz, he will be able to get rid of the ball quicker than our recent QB. While there are definitely questions about our OL, better QB play, mobility and quicker decision-making/release will make our OL more productive. We should see our running game much more productive in terms of YPC and YPG even if Kyle stays with a 60-40 ratio (though likely it will be closer to 50-50 with a rookie QB).
I've been rewatching some of the Baylor games re-airing on ESPNU the past week and seeing Griffin over the span of a whole game it's exciting to see his playmaking ability flash on some plays and his overall even keel. None of the
defeated body language of J. Campbell or the ambivilence of Grossman. This kid is going to give us a whole new perspective on what it's like to have a franchise QB.
The Goat 04-16-2012, 12:45 AM Griffin's quick release is more a product of a short throwing motion than sheer arm strength like a Marino or Elway. Or it could be thought of as a different kind of strength, but I definitely don't think Griffin throws as quick as either HOFer.
artmonkforhallofamein07 04-16-2012, 12:51 AM Top 5Redskin super secret playbook plays:
5) on 1st down we will pass or run
4) if we take Griffin, we will run the bootleg
3) if we take Griffin, we will fake the bootleg
2) if we take Griffin, we will snap the ball to him
And the Number 1 super secret Redskin playbook play
4th and 10 from our 25, we are gonna punt.!!!!
Now that shit is funny....
Also... really , really.... "duh cowboys are gonna rush the qb" if we take RGIII. If we took some one else they wouldn't rush him?
REDSKINS4ever 04-16-2012, 12:52 AM Did anyone see the Baylor-Oklahoma game last fall? The Sooners tried to pressure Griffin III, but to no avail. RG3 ended up completing over 80% of his passes in that game and ended up throwing for 479 yards. The blitz simply was in effective. It sounds like Rob Ryan has been talking up RG3 in Dallas. But Ryan better be aware...his defense could very well get scorched by RG3.

You talk about the OU game and how amazing Robert played that game which brings me to my next question which I already feel like I'm answering as I'm typing this;
If RG3 were on Auburn in '10 and Cam were on Baylor in '11, who would be better. Or would they be the same? Would Cam win the Heismann still? Would Robert still win the Heismann? Would Robert win a national championship with Auburns defense? I'd be very curious if you flip-flopped the two of them.
EARTHQUAKE2689 04-16-2012, 01:21 AM ^ They both win the Heisman. Auburn wins the NC and Baylor goes 10-3.

Cam Newton and RG3 would have been able to accomplish the same things if their roles were reversed.

Interesting article. I wasn't born yet, but I wonder if Redskin fans were equally concerned with Navy Heisman Trophy winning quarterback Roger Starbauch being drafted by Dallas, knowing that Navy was in the area. At that time, I don't think Dallas was our arch rival as of yet.
And yes, I remember Ricky Thompson. He played WR for us in the late 1970s and early 1980s. His number was 83.
But anyway, I'm glad that Dallas Cowboy fans in Waco, Texas hate the idea of RG3 playing for the Redskins.

But between Cam and Griffin I think Cam was the better prospect.
Cam is alot like Griffin except bigger.
That Auburn team net-net had less talent then the Baylor team.
o I can't recall any good draftable OL, the Panthers either drafted late or UDFA signed an Auburn OL but I doubt that happens without Cam.
o Cam's best receiver was Darvin Adams and IIRC Adams went undrafted?
o And Auburn was heavily dependent on Cam's ability to run the ball to generate and sustain there offense.
